I did not, because Obama opted out last time and likely will this time. So my $3 would just go to the Republican candidate. Hell no. I encourage all Democrats to do the same.

However on my state return you can earmark $5 to the fund of a selected party or general election fund, and in that case I did do so for the DFL Party.

Seriously? You'd actually possibly deny Santorum money like that?

When I first started filing tax returns (eons ago), I did, but I stopped a long time ago.  The leeway our laws have given to private funding of campaigns has made public funding utterly ineffectual.

Uh, yeah. I don't care for public financing of campaigns and won't just change my view because my candidate would benefit by receiving more funding.

Never have; never will.  If I want to donate, I'll just donate to a candidate on my own.

I donate privately. I also haven't donated since the 08 primary when I gave $50 to Obama.

You do realize that checking that box doesn't increase the amount of tax you owe, right? It's not a donation; checking the box simply means $3 of your taxes goes into the Presidential Election fund as opposed to the general fund.

I'm a strong supporter of public financing of campaigns--I honestly don't see how campaign donations aren't considered bribery, really--and thus I check the box.

Not anymore. I do donate the $1 to the Gubernatorial campaign fund here in Massachusetts on my state income taxes, though.

Not sure.  For some reason I always think people on the forum are older than they are.
