So a bunch of racist twats did something that was clearly racist and got offended when they were called out on it? Shocking.
Is it wrong that I'd feel no sympathy for Asians if admissions were specifically made harder for Asians? On average, most of the drive from academics that comes from Asians seems to emanate from helicopter parents and ridiculous standards at predominantly Asian schools. I don't think this would be replicated at adulthood and I don't think it's indicative of real interest in academics.
(before some says "das racist", I'm playing devil's advocate. If we're going to have race based affirmative action for "diversity" and "school character" [dumb, dumb ideas imo], it might make some sense to make admissions for asians harder)
I agree, I felt the same way when I went to a 50% Asian skool. It was telling that many of the kids I encountered were mediocre-to-average but got in because they were heavily coached. My friend even said that "Asians seem so homogenous that if you're friends with one, there is no need to bother with more". It was cold.
I get it. If Asians beat you on the test and get in they are "coached." If you do better on the test than an African American and they get in that's racist.
In other words any scenario where any race other than white is admitted shows the system is clearly racist. Nice.
I'm an Asian of some sort. With regards to Whites, I don't like the sample of them here on this forum. I have even made threads here where I admitted that I didn't take Westerners (Whites) seriously when it came to Asian/Eastern cultures.
I'm speaking out against a particular Asian culture (that I should include many forumites here did in the "Chinese mothers" thread) that emphasizes ultra-competitiveness with regards to standardized test scores to the detriment of music, art, politics, socializing and sports.
Btw, didn't my set of preferred demographics include a higher rate of African-Americans than what my what my skool had? Yep. Of course it's not difficult.
Well there has to be a standard for admissions. If it is the SAT we will have some people saying that people are being coached if "too many" Asians get in. If we go on well roundness and diversity then the same people will complain because "too many" blacks are getting in. The fact of the matter is historically the admissions process to Universities of this country have been heavily skewed in favor of White males. After giving them a massive head start now people want to make admissions "fair" and ignore the inequities of the past. No one has ever proven that any one hard cutoff for any one metric produces superior college graduates. If we went purely by test scores then the percentage of whites in our top medical and law schools would shrink dramatically. And yet these are the same people that scream bloody murder when two out of a hundred students at their school are black. Think about that. Two out of a hundred.
