imagine if this was Bush43 and an oil company instead of Obama and a solar company...this is gioing nowhere, the liberal press will not follow up on a potential scandal involving Obama.

NYT published an in-depth, front-page, lengthy story on this today (and has been covering it for weeks).  the conclusion being that a) Obama likely was influenced by Solyndra's extensive lobbying efforts and b) the administration fast-tracked stimulus loan guarantees and cut important corners in the process.

oh, but if it were Bush and an oil company, it would have been criminal intent....with Obama, it was just him trying to rush

Well, to me, Congressionnal Hearings should be like a trial, you can't refuse to answer a question.

Sure, because the Bush administration was full of criminals, and the Obama administration is at worst full of incompetents.

You can invoke the fifth during a trial...

This scandal looks like it is going to have legs, and if the Department of Justice is not moving on this with some dispatch, at some point the House should grant at least one of these jokers immunity so that he can't take the 5th, with a view to bag the balance, and expose whatever wrong doing there was in the Administration.

This one isn't going away. If Obama is smart, he should cut his losses right away, and just let it all hang out. The drip, drip, drip thing will kill him. This Green stuff has become almost like another slush fund. Little of it makes any economic sense, but it sure makes political sense, in just so many ways - mostly for Dems. In a way, I'm glad this happened. Enough is enough.

Yes, but it is more or less an admission of guilt.

No, it isn't actually. No such inference should be drawn. Yes, I know, lawyers think about these things differently than layman. That is understandable.

what?!  so if I am called to testify in someone else's trial, and I refuse to answer questions according to my 5th amendment rights...it's an admission of guilt?!...no, no, no...it's simply stating that I have the right to remain silent and not give info that may be used, rightly or wrongly, against me

So if someone is preemptively granted immunity, they can't plead the fifth? I've never considered that before, but it makes sense- you can't incriminate yourself if they're legally bound to not penalize you. How far does this immunity extend though? Hypothetically, if someone is granted immunity and they can't plead the fifth couldn't they just perjure freely?

Correct they can't then plead the 5th, and of course they can then commit perjury, but that would be a separate crime for which there would be no immunity.  So that would be getting put out of the soup, only to dive right back in again. That would be uber dumb. It would be far wiser to just spill your guts honestly, and immunize as much as possible. What you don't testify about is not immunized.

Well if this scandal has taught me anything it's that we obviously shouldn't do anything ever again.

You shouldn't find that too difficult, since all you do anyway is sit in a dark basement, eat cold pizza and watch hentai.

If he's excited about Persona 4 then he probably has at least as good taste in anime as you do, Blub.

No doubt, had this happened under Bush there would have been a massive prosecution of related officials and staff like in every under Bush era scandal.

Imagine if George W Bush had committed insider trading using classified information.

Oh wait, that really happened, and he didn't get in trouble because his daddy controlled the SEC. So much for your hypothetical.

How much would acquiring their intellectual property and opening up factories in China cost?
