I think you people, especilly blue avatars, are going a little unreasonign ehre. For God's sake, this guy practiclly promised to raise taxes, and you are giving him an aclamation.

How did he promise to raise taxes?

Throughout his tenure on the forum and in the senate Nation has proved to be a sensible moderate on the issues, something we need back in the senate.

Everyone promotes fiscal responsibility --- but unfortunatley, with a strong military and a slightly weakened economy, there must be sacrifies in order to prevent this nation from plunging further into debt.

I interpretated that as cutting un-needed spending.

Uh, I don't see how that proves that he meant he'd raise taxes.  Why couldn't "sacrifices" mean spending cuts?

1st) Cutting is fiscal responsability. This is structured in a way indicating that he doesn't take it serious.

2nd) A red avatar doing that. Yea, right.

Just what we need, more assumptions based on avatars...

Okay first off avatars having nothing to do with Atlasian politics. Secondly, I believe that Nation was talking about fiscal responsibility which every elected representative should strive for.

Whilst it is no secret that some Democrats engage in avatarism at the ballot box, this also shows that some supposed Republicans engage in it as well. Get over your prejudices against the left and give people a chance to act before you start denouncing them.

To Colin,

If you decide to run, I'll support you, though obviously I'm not in your district. I think you're an exceptionally well qualified candidate, you're intelligent and make good points. You have proven that you'll remain active and frankly you've already been cheated out of running for a D1 Senate seat before, so I think you deserve a go. Furthermore, you are the sort of view that we continue to need in the Senate to stop centrist or leftist domination of the body.

And, Phil, if you don't want to elect Lawrence Watson, you'll have to EITHER use preferential voting or try and endrose someone with a chance at winning.

I do what I feel is right even when it hurts my party. Sorry. I'm not going to stand up to something just when it's convenient. I will not cast a preferential ballot in this election.

Giving away elections is not the best way to protest a system, IMHO.

I'm not "giving away" anything. I disagree with that voting system and therefore I refuse to use that system. I don't stand with something only when it helps me and my party, Gustaf.

That's not really my point...if an election is rigged, or something in another way makes the electoral process illegitimiate protests of that sort are reasonable. But if you don't like the system, have failed to change it through democratic process there's no reason not to participate in it.

I understand what you're saying. However, I am so opposed to it that I refuse to use it.

Well, well...I guess I can understand that as a general principle, but not really in this case.

But I'm still gonna be upset if you Republicans give another election to the wrong guy b/c of this. Tongue You should at least act as if there was no preferential voting, i.e. not run candidates that would split the vote.

You can take that comment any way you wish Bono, but I really do hope you won't twist my words around in the future.

On to the campaign trail!
