I think the only way that would happen is if Obama chooses not to run for re-election.  It is not impossible for her to run in 2016.  She would be 69, and that could be regarded as "too old," though Reagan was about six months older.

Her best shot was 2008, and she has not been a particularly stellar Secretary of State (though a reasonably good one).

She might point out that women live longer, and if her mother is still alive, say "My 97 year old mother thinks I'm pretty young."

Obama was a pretty sneaky rat bastard to appoint here as Secretary of State, because had she retained her independence, she would no doubtedly have been a lot more liberal than Obama over the past few years and there would be a much bigger push to draft her out. Being Secretary of State has muzzled her. That was Obama's final rat bastard move against her. Now we have Kirsten Gillibrand, but she still has more work to do to find her voice on national issues.

Another thing about the Secretary of State job is that I think it's genuinely exhausting.  The Sec is heading a massive agency where internal squabbling is terrible and constant fights with DOD are certain, a bunch of critical things are happening every day that require complicated responses and policy decisions, and you're constantly on 20 hour plane trips for visits that only last a few days.  I don't know about anyone else, but after four years of that job, I'd want to spend the rest of my life on a secluded beach where everyone would just leave me alone.

I think she's been one of the more outstanding SOS' we've had too.......I'm certain she delivers Obama's message far more "succinctly" than he can Wink

Clinton is terrific. We really got screwed out of a good president because voters got caught up in that "yes we can" cult of personality garbage.

If Hillary runs, I won't vote for her. She's clearly to the right of Obama.

I think she's been good, not on the level of a Hull, a Marshall, a Kissinger, or a Baker.  Some of that is just circumstances.

I would have voted for her over McCain.

And we probably would not have the same economic problems (though there would still be problems).

What makes you so certain she would have done a better job as President than Obama? Also, having hope (naive as it was) that a presidential candidate could dramatically improve the political environment in the U.S. hardly qualifies as a "cult of personality."

I find this question weird cause I read an article that suggested something similiar. It was that Obama should step aside and let Clinton run in his stead, because she would've handled the Republicans better and would've been able to pass the agenda Obama desired. If he steps aside I have no doubt her capable of beating nuts like Bachmann or Santorum, and it'd be a good fight with Romney, Paul, or Perry. If Obama didn't concede and she still ran, it'd be one hell of a primary, and I can't see any clear winner.

There is NO chance she will run in 2012.  There is a decent chance she might run 2016.

If Hillary runs, I won't vote for her. She's clearly to the right of Obama.

In the 2008 campaign, her health care and economic plans were more progressive than Obama's.  Clinton can only be considered more conservative if she is strictly viewed through a foreign policy lens.

Not big issues with DailyKos liberals. It was all about who could GOTV the best in Idaho.

Yep.  For some laughs check out the 2008 Elections Board.  Especially the posts from during the primaries.

Do you guys have amnesia? I mean, do you remember how intensely hated Hillary Clinton was by the Republican Party. She would be getting the same obstructionist treatment that Obama is getting now, if not worse. Then people would be wishing we would have nominated Obama. Democrats were going to be disappointing either way.
