5. Not all African-Americans are homophobic. Atlanta is pretty much the capital of gay African-Americans, as well as African-American liberals.
8. That district contains more of the liberal parts of San Diego, the conservatives are in CA-50 and CA-52.

Hey, my congressional district is pretty gay. No surprise there.

It's mostly suburban high income blacks; the district also includes the liberal whites of eastern Atlanta + Decatur.

I was surprised there would be any republican held district in the top 10. And not just because republicans are homophobic, but also because of places gays tend to desire to live...urban, well-educated, etc.

I think this proves that a lot of LGBT Americans still aren't open/visible enough for these studies to be much use other than broad-strokes, because there's no way MA-02 has more gay couples than MA-01 for realsies.

Northampton is in MA-2, as is Amherst, which easily explains it for me. Also, mid-sized cities, even depressed ones like Springfield, always have much larger numbers of same-sex couples than the common perception of gays as wealthy people in a few big metropolises would lead people to believe.

Some of the numbers in the NY area look implausibly low: NY-5, -6, NJ-5, NJ-9 (Yes, guys, I know one of these is a largely African-American district, that shouldn't make a difference.) The best explanation for me is that when you have a metro area as big as NYC, it's easy for gays to find communities of any kind, suburban, exurban, or urban, in one part of the metro area and not settle elsewhere.

Amherst is in MA-01. John Olver lives in Amherst.

You're right about Northampton though. I forgot what district it was in (because it makes no Goddamn sense what district it's in).

I was mainly thinking of how culturally hidebound and Catholic the older suburbs around Springfield are, but Northampton being there probably does counteract that.

Or my own CD, NJ-09. 1.5%, and distinctly lower than all the other NJ districts? Color me skeptical. Basically, these are almost entirely statistical noise, with only a couple of significant high numbers sticking out. Which shouldn't really surprise anyone.

What's the lowest? SD-AL is the lowest state, but something like MS-01 could go below it.

SD-AL is 1.9.

MS-03, the Natchez-to-Starkville one, is the lowest at 1.4.

KY-05, LA-03, MS-03, MO-07, NJ-05, NJ-09, NY-06, NC-01, PA-12, TX-01, TX-05, and TX-13 are the other districts that are tied with or below SD-AL.

The Palm Springs area has a lot of gays. It also has a lot of Republican voting retirees.

Once I tamper with the local water supply the numbers in MD-03 are going to skyrocket.

Oh... I mean, How interesting.
