There are some proposals to regulate satellite radio (Sirius and XM) to the same decency standards as regular AM and FM radio. I am strongly against it...I have Sirius and one of the great things about it is that it's so freeform and I don't have to worry about the government telling me what I can and cannot listen to. Of course the biggest reason I am against it is the fact that I am *paying* for it. Since I am paying to subscribe to listen to the service, it should not have government standards. What do you think?

BTW, Sirius is a must-have if you love political talk.

Hell, I'm against them regulating any of it, outside of keeping pirate stations out. Companies should be able to broadcast what they want.

AM and FM are owned by the public, not companies...which is why I am for some basic decency standards. But I definetely think the FCC has gone too far lately.

The FCC should sell of the rights to own those in certain areas. If you own them in an area you can broadcast for a certain range. If there's a conflict between stations, the FCC can solve the dispute as a mediator. If someone owns the wavelength, but it is not used within a certain period of time, it can be seized and then sold to the highest bidder(this would ensure nobody would buy up all the wavelengths and only have their stations playing, there's too many to own all of them and run profitable stations), or limit the number that a company can own in an area. Basically just sell the wavelengths to the highest bidder. Make the FCC self-sufficient in funding that way, maybe even profitable. Perhaps have them rent them out rather than selling, giving the rights to the previous owner where applicable(if a contract with the FCC expires and two companies want the wavelength, the one that had it last would get it, at the same rate of course), that way the cash flow is constant.

'Decency' is a matter of opinion. If you don't like what you hear on the radio, change the channel, nobody is forcing you to listen to it. If someone is playing their radio too loud, noise pollution laws should kick in(and be better enforced).

We have 4, and they are all conservative.  If you want something else you have to look long and hard.

I'm with you on that as well.  The FCC has gone too far.  We liberal Democrats have to stand up to these self righteous people that are trying to infringe on our individual rights.

I strongly support the so-called "Indecency War" that the FCC has waged lately. I think it's way overdue. Those rules have always been in place, they were just never enforced. However, I believe that satelite radio is a whole different ball game. It's programming should not be regulated by the FCC in any way, shape, or form.

I purchased an Delphi SkyFi 2 XM radio last week and I love it. It has Air America and a channel with conservative talk. The reception is great, and so are the music channels. I higly reccomend it to anyone.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

NONONONONONONO!!!!!!!!!

I am a proud owner of an XM Satellite Radio. Home of Opie & Anthony, Playboy Radio, uncensored hardcore rap, and uncensored standup comedy.

If the FCC tries to lay a finger on my friends at XM, I think I would have finally mustered up the anger to go $hit bananas and kick some fascist commie a$$.

And i'm a wuss who's never hurt a fly.

XM man! That's the way to go!

My preset channels are 20 on 20, U-POP, XMU, Ethel, Fred, Raw, The City, The System, and MTV Radio.

When it comes to political talk though, I prefer America Left. There's tons of conservative talk on normal radio, and I find Al Franken to be hilarious. I also watch his show on the Sundance Channel.

XM has all kinds of talk. America Left and America Right is political talk and they're the only ones i listen to. Then there's Ask?!?!, which i believe is how-to. There's The Power, which is african-american talk. And there's Open Road, which is for truckers.

Plus XM has NPR too, it's just called XM Public Radio. I like it because they play Whad'ya Know pretty much all day long.

Well, Sirius has the real NPR....NPR News and NPR Talk, along with Public Radio World and World International Talk. They also have Sirius Right, Sirius Left (self-explanatory), Air America (the full schedule unlike XM), Sirius Patriot (conservative-libertarian talk), Talk Central, CNBC, BBC Talk, Women's talk, Self-improvement Talk, Gay & Lesbian Talk, Court TV, Truckers Talk, ABC News & Talk network, MAXIM radio and hispanic talk. I think Sirius has XM creamed at least in that department. Not to mention they are getting the king of all media...Howard Stern...

I'm not all that impressed with the America Right channel lineup. The only one I listen to on that channel is Mike Reagan. Besides him, I listen to Sean Hannity (ABC Channel), Tony Snow and Art Bell (Ask! Channel) and Al Franken and Alan Colmes (America Left). I also listen to the comedy channels.

Holy schnitzel.

XM had those news channels, I just didn't mention them. They have ABC, MSNBC, Fox News, C-Span, BBC World Service, CNN, CNN Espanol, ESPN Radio, ESPNEWS, Fox Sports, Sporting News Radio, and the Nascar Channel.

I don't listen to any of them though. I primarily use XM for music.
