Just a bit of fun really; how would you carve up England into seperate regions for the purposes of theoretical federalisation/devolution? Would the Economic Regions suffice? (One Rule: London remains a seperate unit as is)

I like the one where they use telephone calls to do it:

But I'm not sure how valid it is.

This was mine. It follows the Economic Regions to a degree but makes a big reorganisation in the South East

Interesting to see some very clearly defined borders (between Yorkshire and Lancashire for example) but a lack of indentity in the East Midlands.

Poor Wales.

Obviously Middlesbrough is in Yorkshire, but it doesn't make much sense to split Teeside and it's more North East than anything else now. There's a logic to putting Northants in with the northern Home Counties, but I don't like it Tongue

For a start, I'd group Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire as "Anglia", as well as grouping Cornwall, Devon and Somerset in one region.

On reflection you are right; Middlesbrough is closely linked to the North East. Residents of Redcar and Cleveland would probably be happy to find themselves in Yorkshire Smiley

I agree with you on Northants which is polarised N/S anyway; was a toss of a coin really as to where I would place that. I noticed that in the research Opebo brought up, if its down to 3 markets; Scotland, England, London - Corby still makes most of it's connections with Scotland Grin

Essex is just so....Essex Tongue I would feel sorry for Anglia to give it Essex Cheesy.

I think the South East is perhaps too unwieldy and would support putting Cornwall, Devon and Somerset in one region. If anything Dorset gravitates more towards Hampshire but I would place that in with Cornwall/Devon/Somerset. Even having Cornwall/Devon as one region could work but perhaps they are too 'different' to get on just by themselves.

Redcar proper, *possibly*. Points east, quite likely. Points west need to go wherever Middlesbrough goes.
