The unemployment rate gradually goes down to around 8 % as the slow economic recovery continues, and in May of 2012 after the GOP primary has wrapped up Obama's approval rating is still hovering around 50%.  But in June of 2012 Osama Bin Laden is finally captured in the Mountains of Pakistan.  Romney picks Pawlenty, and Obama keeps Biden on the ticket.

What happens to Obama's approval rating after OBL is captured?

What happens in the general election?

Discuss with maps:)

At this point OBL is a side-note to the Afghan war.

Obama wins by a landslide, obviously.

Obama at 50% approval vs Romney probably looks something like this:

Obama: 309
Romney: 229

Not sure what the OBL capture does except maybe swing OH, NC and NV back into his column, but will it really be impactful? Perhaps if it were shown that some policy of his led to capture it helps.

In the end OBL alive, dead or captured probably has little meaning for Afghanistan. As for AQ and the war on terror, the real action for them is now in Yemen

Yes, but his capture wouldn't change any dynamics in the war now... it'll be a morale boost and nothing more.

Osama Bin Laden has been dead for years.

The Daily Mail is Britain's version of the National Inquirer.

As to the map....

Without OBL

With, but as a morale boost that swings 'fine-line' states to Obama.
