If Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders runs as an independent candidate for President in 2012, who should he pick as a running mate?

Alan Grayson, obviously. Grayson may have been defeated pretty badly, but he is still well-liked among the Daily Kossacks. Besides, Sanders isn't running to win if he does run (which is entirely speculative, he has not made any indication that he will).

I guess he's fine if Sanders wants to run with a one term House loser who ran inflammatory and false statements about his opponent during the campaign.

Why is it that whenever someone makes the national spotlight for 5 minutes everyone suddenly wants that person to run for President? Getting media time doesn't qualify you to run

Sanders, tops, will not break five percent nationally,* so I do not see how Grayson would hurt him, as it would boost his publicity and make the blogosphere swoon. Him or Kucinich (the latter wouldn't accept and has his own issues) would be good picks.

Would Feingold run with him if Sanders asked him to?

Yeah that makes no sense and he'd never do that. I doubt it'd be anyone we'd think of. Probably someone only a handful of people have ever heard of. I suppose Feingold would be a good choice if he did want a recognizable figure, though.

Isn't his Senate seat up in 2012?

Yes.  He was elected to the Senate in 2006.

Jerry Brown.  He'll need a West Coast balance to his ticket.  And, by then, Brown will be wanting to bail out of his job in the worst way.

Maybe it would be a "consumer activist" of some sort, ala Nader (not actually Nader, though). He could pluck someone from San Francisco, of course. But yeah, I doubt that we would have ever heard of the guy.

While that would be an amazing choice (comedians would love it), I really doubt Brown would accept plus they would both be over seventy.

Wasn't everyone talking about Lou Dobbs's third-party run a few months ago?  Unfortunately, I doubt Sanders would run as an independent.

Grayson would be perfect. The one person that would, in comparison, make Sanders look mainstream.
