yes, the Robber Barons do have a mythical status in the historical imagination that goes beyond historical fact. that is not to say there is not historical fact behind the idea.

They've made a comeback in recent years as both parties have moved far to the right. Eisenhower wouldn't have allowed the Robber Barons that Obama supports.

Basically negative. I have a rather jaundiced view of unions (not totally, there are some "assets" on the union side of the ledger sheet), particularly ideological ones, as opposed to the old AFL way back when. If you want to discuss that matter, we can.
