Have you guys heard of this game? It was made by some company in the UK and was released today. The game's main goal is to kill John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

BOYCOTT THIS UNPATRIOTIC BRITISH FACIST CRAP!

<BRTD>Now if it was LBJ or Ralph Nader Reloaded, it would be worth it Wink </BRTD>

I heard something about this game being intended to prove that one assasin could have killed Kennedy.  Don't think you need a tasteless video game to do that, but (shrug).

That's in very poor taste.  I don't hold JFK in high regard, but this is just wrong.

This is honestly the stupidest game I have ever heard of.  This is even stupider than "Ghettopoly" which was kinda of funny in a sick twisted way.  This one is just sheer idiocy.

I read about this.  It was certainly disgusting, to say the least.  I don't buy their reason for making it one bit.

You also apparently get points off for making "errors", i.e., not killing JFK and instead shooting Jackie or something.

Blogger Dean Esmay wrote a good article on this:

Interesting Idea, Poor Taste

A company is planning to release a video game reconstructing the assassination of John F. Kennedy. You can read about it right here.

At first I was offended. Then, I read some more about it, and I started thinking maybe it was a good thing. Then, I was offended again. Now I'm ambivalent.

What I like about the game: it debunks the conspiracy theorists. This I can only applaud. Almost no one knows this but forensic experts a couple of years ago closed down Daly Plaza for an entire day and, using open-topped limos, dummies, and lasers, proved definitively that it was impossible for JFK to have been shot from the grassy gnoll, impossible for him to have been shot from the overpass some mentioned, impossible for him to have been shot from another window in the school repository--basically, proved that all the major conspiracy theories involving another shooter were simply not physically possible.

It also remains that the vast majority of forensics experts who've actually seen the unvarnished Zapruder film have concluded that it was a classic case of a single shooter and that there's absolutely no support for a second shooter theory--although, like any good scientist, they'll admit that they cannot definitively rule it out, there's just no support for it. Those few who say otherwise are really a very small minority. You can read more here if you have any questions.

One of my favorite movie quotes of all time, from one of my favorite movies of all time (trivia points if you can name it): "I belive in....the small of a woman's back, the hangin' curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent over-rated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there oughtta be a Constitutional amendment outlawing astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. Good night."

Love that.

While we're at it, can I mention that the bulge on Bush's back was a loose strap from his bulletproof vest, and the reason the Kerry campaign didn't say anything about it was because Kerry was almost certainly wearing the same kind of vest, as supplied by the Secret Service? And that neither Hillary nor Bill had anything to do with the deaths of Ron Brown or Vince Foster? And that there was absolutely no medical evidence that Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's until almost two years after leaving office? And that George H.W. Bush never went to Iran to make a secret deal to hold off on releasing hostages? And that, yes, there really was a moon landing?

Ahhhhhh. That feels better.

Anyway: if this game helps young people sharpen their critical thinking skills and be more skeptical of the people who publish wild conspiracy theories, it's a good thing.

Or I was thinking that until I saw that you had options to increase or decrease the gore level and that you could lose points for doing things like shoot the First Lady.

By the way, when I'm in better moods, I actually find conspiracy theories entertaining. But sometimes, they are very destructive, and we should acknowledge that. One of my earlier articles on the subject is here, and a nice roundup of further links plus a very rare Chris Muir cartoon can be found here.

Boycotting video games is dumb.  Anyone who wants to buy the game, will.  It's not like the makers will be scared by a bunch of people who wouldn't buy their game anyway boycotting it.

badnarik, you have said some (I think) dumb stuff, but this takes the cake.

This dumber than you saying that George and Laura Bush have no "chemistry" as if you would have any idea about their relationship.

This is even dumber than you saying that you wish that you were on your school band so you could get kicked off for not playing for President Bush and then becoming some sort of "anti-Bush" martyr becuase you just didn't go play your instrument. (I would probabaly call you an idiot for not just doing for what you were told by the teacher who is IN CHARGE of the class.)

I don't want to sound mean but to say that a game where you shoot a President is acceptable and all those who oppose it are idiot rednecks who wave the flag in front of their face and are "blind" patriots is dispicable. It's just sick Bandanrik, very sick.

I'm not saying it's particularly ok to do these sort of things, and I respect the right to boycott anything. And no, I am not interested in buying this game.

I'm just poking fun at people's natural reflexes to say the same thing about anything offensive.

It's a joke. You know, one of those things you laugh at. I think it's funny. You don't have to think so.

Do you really think we should be banning things for the sole reason that they are offensive?

Don't like the game? Ok, don't buy it.  DOn't force others to live by your morals.
