Amazing that even this Pope saw the writing on the wall for how this policy is going. Not that it matters anyway as I imagine the maybe 10 Catholics who actually follow this policy won't be affected by the exception.

At best he's saying to male prostitutes, if you can't be good, be careful.

It's also that for male prostitutes with AIDS, it might be a step up.  They might be able to climb to a higher circle of Hell.

So do his views on birth control now coincide with the laws of Connecticut in 1965?

"Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that the use of condoms can be justified in some cases, such as for male prostitutes seeking to prevent the spread of HIV. "

riddle me this:  why is the Pope making declarations about what is justifiably permissible within sinful behavior?!  it's like the NFL saying, "while engaged in an ejectable offense, the player is justified in keeping his helmet on for his own protection" (no pun intended)..

..or better yet, "while robbing a bank, it is justifiable to wear a bullet proof vest."

Because people are weird like that. Even while committing adultery, some people still won't use condoms if they are think that using them is wrong. I know that's blatantly inconsistent, but consistency is something that the human race hasn't been particularly good at.

Which is worse, me robbing you at gunpoint or me robbing you at gunpoint and then shooting you in the kneecap?

There's a weird... acceptance that stuff is going to happen, and probably best to be on the side of caution. For the RCC it's positively progressive.

Well, perhaps he wanted the opportunity to 'save their souls' later on - if someone died in the commision of a 'sin', wouldn't he go to 'hell'?

If he survived the bank-robbing or bum-burgling he might repent of it later and go on to become a deacon or whatever it is, Ted.
