Name five men or women (who held a national or gubernatorial office prior to 2000), that you would have liked to be President of the United States.

My top five are:

1) Nelson Rockefeller
2) Alexander Hamilton
3) Olympic Snowe
4) Thomas Dewey
5) Jack Kemp

Henry Clay would've been a fantastic president, and was superbly qualified for the position. It is a shame he never got the honor of serving as President. Hughes probably would've been a good president as well. I would have liked to have seen a McCain presidency, even though it probably wouldn't have turned out well. Giving Al Smith a shot at the position in the 1920s would have nice, too. I've also always thought that President Hearst would have been funny.

What would anyone think of former Virginia Senator John Warner as President?

I believe he would have made a great President.

I'm surprised you didn't rank Ron Paul first - is this given the context of the times they would've been President, or just overall preferences?

Well I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it, just the first names that popped into my head. The order is not significant. Of course Ron Paul is the only one on the list with even the remote possibility of still becoming president.
