according to a recent PPP poll the match up polled like this
Obama 42%
Romney 36%
Paul 13%

In 2011 there is a double dip recession, huge inflation, and the civil war in Mexico with the cartels has spilled across the border leading to clashes with the national guard. Obama's approval rating has been bouncing between 36%-39%. Mit Romney narrowly wins the GOP nomination because of Gingrich and Palin splitting the vote, however has high unfavorable ratings among conservatives from his stance on firearms, and Romneycare.

discuss with maps.

A double dip recession would make it very tough for Obama to win. The problem though is Romney isn't exactly the strongest candidate in the bunch. Paul would undercut Romney's strength if he attempted to make a third party run (Intuition right now tells me that Paul won't do it).

Which would give Obama a narrow victory.
