Yup - pretty obvious he doesn't want to run as "Hey, I'm Harry Reid's son!" -- he needs his own identity.

I find Rory Reid to be hilarious.  I thought he would look like a much younger version of his father, and instead I get this:

But yeah, sucks to be him.  It'll suck even worse for him if his father wins and he loses.

Rory doesn't look much younger than Harry.

He looks like one of the villains from Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Even though he's only 47. Odd.

I think it's partly to avoid confusion between the Reids, but also of course so that he could distance himself from Harry.

Of course, it would be hilarious if it fails, and Harry wins but Rory loses.

Well, he wants to make it clear that he's not running to be party of a dynasty and is his own man, running his own race.

The only reason why he's doing this is because the Reid name is toxic.

If it wasn't, he wouldn't be on track to get slaughtered by 20+ points.

The only reason why he's doing this is because the Reid name is toxic.

Did Hillary only go by her first name because the Clinton name was toxic?

Of course not, she just wanted her own political identity.

Rory wants to be able to run a campaign where he's holding the controls, and this is the only way to do it, it's that simple.  If he runs a campaign that projects the image that he feels he's entitled to higher office because of his father, he'll be in very bad shape, so this is just basic messaging control 101.

I got a Rory Reid bumper sticker in the mail two weeks ago with the handwritten note saying "Make sure to tell all your Nevada friends who to vote for!"  The bumper sticker does not have his last name, but rather a picture of a school bus saying "RORY HAS A PLAN" across the side.

So, Joe, this note compels me to tell you to vote for Rory.
