John 3:33-34 “33...Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.”

very deep passage.  this is how I read it:

"33 Whoever believes Christ's testimony believes without question that God is truthful, 34 because Christ's testimony is the word of God and once that word is accepted by the believer, Christ gives his Spirit which washes alway any and all doubts".

Amen!

But once you receive it, is it required to post bible versus in almost every posting on a political forum?

The importance of John 3:22-36 lies not in its theology, but principally in setting forth the relationship between John the Baptist and Jesus. an importance which was greater at the time of its writing than today.  John 3:22-30 lays out the John the Baptist accepted Jesus as the Messiah, and John 3:31-36 is a restatement of the central thesis of John 3:10-21, but recounted as being said by John the Baptist instead of by Jesus.  Given that there were at the time quite a few that held John the Baptist to be a prophet, but were either ambivalent about the status of Jesus, or even held that Jesus had distorted the teachings of John the Baptist, establishing that John the Baptist accepted Jesus as the Messiah was an important missionary tool of the time.  (Even today, there are still those who accept John the Baptist but reject Jesus not only as the Son of God, but even as a servant of God.)

no, you simply lack the ability to understand, even though I parsed it.  (note the word in red - it's the receiving of the Holy Spirit that proves God exists.)

I'm still waiting for them to tell me exactly how god can possibly care what organisms on a miniscule planet do while he's got the universe to run?

I tried that whole recieving the holy spirit thing in my younger days, but then I began to think critically and realized that ghosts are a load of hooey.

Perhaps 'convinces the receiver' might be a better way of putting it than 'proves', jmfcst, since to the disinterested observer it just appears that the receiver of the 'spirit' is mad and irrational.

that's always been the case, but that following statement still stands: "Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true"
