State Senator Vincent Sheheen (D-SC) announced Thursday that he had been endorsed in the gubernatorial race by a majority of the Democratic caucus in the General Assembly.

I think this seals that on the Democratic side it'll be a two person race between him and Superintendent of Education Jim Rex. I can't see State Senator Ford as having even a remote chance now, not that I thought he ever a chance of winning the office and at best a remote chance at the nomination.  While there are two other 'candidates' for the Democratic nomination, all they are going to do is take up ballot space and get invited to a few debates.

Looks like one of those two non-office holding candidates I mentioned, Dwight Drake has bowed out, and The State hasn't even heard of the other.  So that leaves three candidates, out of which Sheheen has a clear endorsement and fund-raising lead over the other two.  I'd like to see some actual polling and campaigning, but it looks like Sheheen is the most likely Democratic nominee right now.  Depending on who he faces and what the issues are in November, Sheheen might have a chance.  It's not too late for Rex to decide to run for reelection as Superintendent though he would need to hustle to do so.
