What percentage of Americans do you estimate fall into each of the following categories?

A: Homosexuality is a horrendous sin, homosexuals should receive absolutely no recognition of their relationships or discrimination protection whatsoever, and homosexual acts should be prohibited by law. DADT doesn't go far enough, the old ban needs to be reinstated.
B: Homosexuality is a grave sin, but it's not the state's job to enforce morality on this. Regardless, homosexuals should not be granted recognition of their relationships or any type of protection. Keep DADT if not reinstate the full ban on homosexuals in the military.
C: Homosexuality is sinful, but it's not our job to judge. Homosexuals deserve protection under the law including repeal of DADT, and possibly some limited recognition of their relationships, though calling it marriage is out of the question.
D: Homosexuality is not necessarily sinful, but the traditions of society mean that we should keep marriage defined as is. Still we should repeal DADT, grant some other form of recognition of homosexual relationships, and pass anti-discrimination laws.*
E: It is not our position to pass judgment on if homosexuality is sinful or not. Homosexuals should be granted full protection under the law in addition to repealing DAT, and receive full recognition of their relationships as marriage.
F: Homosexuality is not immoral, homosexuals are also beloved children of God and discrimination against them in any way is a sin. DADT, discrimination and lack of gay marriage are all immoral and sinful and need to be changed.
G: There's no such thing as "sin" and traditional ideas of morality as antiquated. Homosexuality is perfectly acceptable in society and there is no reason to not give them anti-discrimination shared by other minorities, repeal DADT, or grant full marriage rights.
H: It is irrelevant as to whether or not homosexuality is sinful or immoral. It's not the state's job to recognize marriage of any type or deal with discrimination in the private sector.

*Despite this being the standard position of Democratic politicians up until a few years ago and still a common one today, I bet it's actually the last common among the public in reality of these (Though it was the position of my parents for awhile, they've moved more toward E now.) Not that the politicians really hold it either.

There are two types of straight people:

Those that hate you to your face

Those that hate you behind your back

A is way higher than 10%, but nowhere near 50%. That's essentially the category of people who oppose Lawrence v. Texas, and that's a sizable number of Americans.

That has 60% supporting gay marriage, which is unfortunately way too high.

I'm sure that a strong majority of Americans actually support Gay Marriage. As usual, the vocal minority of ultraconservatives always manages to looks bigger than it is.

Doubtful. There was one ABC/Washington Post poll a year ago that found 49% supported it (slim majority) but most other ones that I've seen still show significant opposition unfortunately.

The plurality of all Americans would probably fall between C or D.

There's a lot of people opposed to homosexuality in the US, but I'm pretty confident this is going to change. Good always prevails.

I'd up it to a very sizeable majority but I certainly agree with Frodo's overal sentiment.

It depends how your word the question. Many people don't really have a solid political ideology.
A clear majority approves of allowing gays in the military, even among conservatives:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/120764/Conservatives-Shift-Favor-Openly-Gay-Service-Members.aspx
On the other hand, a majority believes gays should be denied the right to marry, and a substantial minority thinks gay sex should be illegal:

A: 15% (BTW brittain, remember that many oppose Lawrence on states' rights rounds. Clarence Thomas wrote in his dissent that he would vote to repeal the law if he was in the Texas legislature.)

My feeling is that there are a lot of people who don't know the name of Lawrence v. Texas, much less on what grounds it was decided, but still think sodomy should be illegal. In my initial description, I probable gave the wrong impression about how to characterize these people when I described them as opponents of the decision. It's more elemental than that.

Now, if you asked me how many Americans think sodomy should be illegal and that those laws should be enforced widely to make it virtually impossible to be openly gay, I'd be there with a small number like 10%. I think there's a sizable minority that would like keeping them on the books as an expression of God's law and to use whenever gays seem to be trying for too many rights, just to remind us we're wrong and shouldn't get out of line or get anywhere near them and anyone they know. But they don't want to see a massive police campaign.

I think most people have conflicted feelings on this issue.
