Two important states are called.  Clinton takes Wisconsin by a razor thin margin, and Cheney takes Missouri as well by a thin margin, although, by a stronger margin than by which Clinton took Wisconsin.

Incoming results are showing that the voting is definitely moving solidly into Cheney territory.

As results pour in from the plains states, from the mountain states, and from the southwest, it is clear that the native of Wyoming has great appeal in these regions.  One by one, these states are called for Cheney.

Cheney scores massive wins in Kansas and Nebraska, and very solid wins in South Dakota and North Dakota.  The mountain states are reporting.  It is solid for Cheney, where he is scoring a very comfortable win in Montana, and absolutely massive wins in Iaho, Utah, and an incredibly lopsided win in Wyoming.

Democrats are holding out hope for at least one state in these regions, maybe Colorado, but not likely, but are more hopeful for New Mexico and or Nevada.  They were to be disappointed, as Cheney achieves a sweep of the regions.

Cheney takes Colorado by a comfortable margin, Arizona likewise.  It was a battle, however, in both Nevada and New Mexico.  Cheney clings to small, but undisputed wins in both Nevada and New Mexico.  New Mexico especially was tense for both camps, until finally, Cheney is declared winner in New Mexico by less than three points.

The Cheney campaign headquarters is especially upbeat, while at the Clinton headuarters, the mood is decidedly downcast at this point in the evening.  The Clinton campaign realizes, however, that mathematically they still have a chance to win, and the outstanding states, with the exception of Alaska, all favor the Democrats in recent electoral history.

There are now only six states to be decided.  Amazingly, Lieberman's home state of Connecticut still has not been called.  The lead has been shifting back and forth all evening.  The voters in Connecticut appear to be torn between remaining loyal to the  Democrats or supporting their native son.  Lieberman did, after all, spend a great of time campaigning in his home state.

The west coast is now reporting.  This was expected to be good territory for Clinton, and it delivers.  Clinton scores comfortable wins in Washington and California, and a much narrower win in Oregon.

Hawaii is safely projected to go to Clinton, and Alaska is safely projected to go to Cheney.

The Cheney campaign is feeling good about the results.  Short of winning outright, the next best thing for them was a tie in the electoral vote.  The news the Cheney campaign team had been getting from Connecticut was positive for them.  A close analysis of the complete Connecticut vote was showing a win for Cheney and Lieberman of approximately 30,000 votes, with 100% of the precincts reporting.

After counting nation wide, Cheney leads Clinton in the popular vote by the razor thin margin of approximately 500,000 votes, out of about 98,000,000 votes cast.

CNN is first off the mark to call Connecticut for Cheney, cautioning that an automatic recount will take place.

There will be an automatic recount in Connecticut.  The Cheney campaign states they welcome the recount, and that it will confirm their win.

The Clinton team prepares for the recount in Connecticut.

The Cheney campaign prepares for the votes in the House and Senate.

Cheney/Lieberman                         269 EV  48.8% PV
Clinton/Cuomo                              269 EV  48.7% PV
Others                                           0 EV    2.5% PV

I never had any plans to go beyond the election.

I know the Congress was Republican, so Cheney and Lieberman win.
