It's not quite as bad as The Appalachian Trail fiasco of last summer, but we've apparently got more hanky panky going on among out constitutional officers and those who want to be them. Our current Comptroller General, Richard Eckstrom, who is seeking reelection, and Kelly Payne, a candidate for State Superintendent of Education had someone release some salacious emails between the two. Payne is divorced, but Eckstrom is unhappily married. He and his wife have been separated for two years now.
Would hardly be even third-rate scandal were it not for Sanford. Still just a second-rate scandal, but it effectively torpedoes what little hope Payne had of securing the GOP nomination for SoE and it may encourage someone to engage in a primary challenge to Eckstrom for CG.
