Like in something official. Like during a debate: "My opponent's tax plan is epic fail."

Frankly if someone ever did that in a Democratic primary that'd probably sew up my vote.

Probably less likely - because 1) it's unprofessional, 2) the crazy internet people (Ron Paul crazies) use it, 3) people who I know in real life use it.

The 3rd is probably the greatest factor - it'd remind me of people who annoy me, and thus would annoy me.

More likely, if only because it would indicate that they are at least somewhat capable of functioning on the internet.

By the time a mainstream politician ever dared to use the phrase, it'd be way past its fashionable prime.  Imagine if a politician today referenced MySpace in a bid to appear in tune with modern culture, and you'll see what I mean.

Yes.  I think people are too quick to label certain words and behaviors as "unprofessional."

It is insanely old meme. I still kind of like it though.

I think you'd more likely hear it in a statement like "My opponent's plan is, as they say on the internet, epic fail." That makes it sound professional, but aware of the meme.

Any chance of you saying something to that effect on the floor of the IL House? Smiley

Maybe, but it is the way it would be used in a political speech (assuming the politician even knows the phrase.)

Definitely.

Megadittos if they say "Epic F***ing Fail".

Or...

Candidate A: "My new economic plan will create a million new jobs within the first year."

Candidate B: "Obvious troll is obvious."

"Long cat is loooooooong...and so are my opponent's slanderous accusations."
"My opponent has over 9000 factual inaccuracies in his platform."
"Voters...do you have stairs in your house?  If so, you are protected."

Yeah...that'd wear thin really quickly.

I would specifically make sure NOT to vote for anyone who used internet slang in real life.
