In Argentina we are currently waiting for a supreme court ruling to legalize gay marriage. The issue surfaced after last month a judge ruled that it was unconstitutional to stop gay people from  marrying.

Unfortunately a couple of days before the first gay wedding was to be performed, another judged overruled the earlier decision so the matter is with the supreme court now. And last i heard Congress was going to debate next year for a bill legalizing gay marriage nationwide.

Hopefully we can become the first south American country to legalize gay marriage Smiley

Yeah, i know, this topic is about bans, but i just wanted to write about what is happening here Tongue

That'd make Argentina the first country to legalize gay marriage but not abortion.

Yeah. While the latest polls on same sex marriage show that about 70% or more of the people would be in favor of it, i must say that support for abortion is WAY lower than that.

People usually "remember" their Catholicism when talking about abortion Tongue

We have exceptions for health issues though, every once in a while a news story about a court allowing a woman to have an abortion because of health concerns hits the headlines, however, it's quickly forgotten.
