Looking back over this health care battle, I can't help wondering: did Reagan have as tough a time passing his signature domestic initiative (tax cuts) as Obama is trying to get his health care reform initiative signed into law by next January?

No, there are always plenty of moderate heroes in the Democratic party. Bipartisanship is a one way street. At least they didn't make Clinton get 60 votes.

It's pretty easy to support cutting taxes when the top rate when is in the 70s Tongue

Its a very right-wing government - always has been.  Hence the fact that we never got any health care before, and don't look like getting much this time either.

I think Reagan had an easier time because many Democrats (especially back then) could be much more easily manipulated than Republicans can be now. Many Democrats back then were willing to be partisana and work together with Reagan to pass what he wanted, in contrast to how very few Republicans are willing to work together with Obama. I mean Democrats dropped the public option and the provision to lower the Medicate age. Republicans are still unwilling to vote for the bill--what more do they want? Well I think I know--Republicans just want for Obama to fail--That's it!

Also wanted to mention that Reagan's tax cuts increased the country's deficit while Obama's healthcare plan will decrease the country's deficit. Oh yes, those Republicans are really fiscally conservative! (sarcasm)
