I thought I would share an update on how I'm doing with my lifestyle changes.  I'm doing pretty well with it having lost 3 pounds since New Years Day.  I'm still drinking soda, but not as much.  I have added cappuccino to my drink repertoire.  I know it has sugar and calories, but it helps suppress my appetite so I don't get the calories from the food.  I've also been doing really well at breakfast, having either a banana or some grapes.  My dinners have been pretty respectable, as well, with mostly light meals.  Last week, I bought a George Foreman grill, so I can fix a good hamburger patty and keep from going out at night.

As far as my diabetes, I am going to the doctor tomorrow to get his opinion on whether I need to get my blood sugar checked or not.  If he does, I will probably have it tested on February 5.  If he doesn't think I need to, then I probably won't go back to the doctor until probably May.

Start to smoke to balance the changes and that would make you a true moderate hero

Ah, caffeine drinks. My most persistent vice. Good luck.

Same -- it's a bitch to kick.

Good for you! Smiley As for the caffeine, why not just drink regular coffee?

Losing weight is tough, believe me. Best of luck!

Good luck; I've dropped 4.5 pounds since January 1, through not eating out, and not having caffeine drinks.  I suggest you do that, too.  And avoid sugary drinks.

You lost nearly five pounds in just over one week by cutting out caffeine drinks and changing the location at which you eat?

It's not the caffeine in soda that makes you overweight...

True.

In my case, it's the caffeine in the diet soda (and possibly the aspartame...the jury is out on that) that stimulates apetite, creates a sense of "hunger" (I use the term loosely) and craving.  I believe the caffeine (and again, possibly the aspartame) are highly addictive.

No complaints.  I'm the asshole who keeps drinking the stuff.  Just sayin'...

How so? I think I've put on a good 5-10 pounds over break, but that was after I lost 17 pounds between August and December. It's likely your weight loss is mostly due to either losing water weight or cutting out sugary drinks. Caffeine doesn't actually put weight on you. It's a stimulant. I always avoid sodas, except for Coke Zero, but my weak spot is sweet tea. Then again, I don't need to lose anymore weight, rather I need to start hitting the weights again. I am out of shape in that department as I rarely lift when I'm at school.

I don't really believe in losing weight throught changing a meals and drinks.

Two years ago I dropped 20 pounds because I had a horrible thorat infection so I could not eat much.

So you believe in losing weight through horrible throat infections?
