Right now the approval forum is 53\42. Very close to the national numbers ( minus Rasmussen which has him at around 50\50)

And I agree with Obama on summer being shortened significantly. Kids have a 3 month summer break, forget everything, and then spend their first month back in school reviewing what they learned the previous year.

Instead, I'd prefer a system where there are 3 day weekends every weekend, the normal holidays still remain, and summer vacation could be 3-4 weeks.

I'm not sure if school days should be longer though, I'll have to wait for more details.

If we do that then we should also make school attendance non compulsory. If we are going to increase how many days school is in session, we might as well liberalize the attendance laws.

Obama's advicers would never allow him to go through with such a stupid idea as to make summerbreak 3-4 weeks, and to make schooldays longer. It would eleminate the age wave (if it even exists) and turn a majority of Obama's young supporters against him. Republicans might actually win 18-year-olds for the first time in a long time.

Bad idea Barack. BAD!

The president, rightly, of course, sees education as the means towards self-actualization and social mobility. His vision of government is that which facilitates 'cradle-to-grave opportunity' Smiley

Something of this magnitude, however, must be optional

Glad we agree.
Hell, Obama doing away with compulsory school attendance would make him a lot more popular than any negative effect of making school longer.
