Roger-Gérard Schwartzenberg had alaways advocated the rise of women in politics. So, he eventually decided not to be candidate again and to let the Socialist candidate, Ségolène Royal, represent also the Left Radicals.

The possibility of a woman President of the Republic has emulated every quarter of the political spectrum.
And so, EVERY big party and even small ones support a woman for this new presidential election:

Ségolène Royal (<-> François Mitterrand, a socialist leader, but, at the time, more open to the centre: the "ouverture" in 1988, the MoDem today; also, an individualistic behaviour in his/her career)

Simone Veil (<-> Raymond Barre, an "old" centrist leader, not from a precise political party, with an image of wiseness)

Michèle Alliot-Marie (<-> Jacques Chirac, long ministerial experience, "classic" Gaullist positioning at the time)

Marine Le Pen (<-> Jean-Marie Le Pen, well... quite easy... and, at the time -1988- a FN that is more open to the left voters, that's becoming less "small businesses and former French Algeria" and far more blue-collar)

Nicole Borvo (<-> André Lajoinie, not the Nr.1 comrade, not very well known local "baron(ness)" of the PCF, Senator for Borvo, almost Senator in a way for Lajoinie)

Cécile Duflot (<-> Antoine Waechter, leader of the Greens, a bit less on the left now for Duflot, like Waechter in 1988)

Clémentine Autain (<-> Pierre Juquin, a communist but outside the PCF, at the far-left but not the Trotskyite one, small green points also)

Nathalie Arthaud (<-> Arlette Laguiller, first woman of LO, main spokeswoman)

Francine Schivardi (<-> Pierre Boussel, candidate of the "internationalist" and more traditional wing of the Trotskyite movement in France)

I can predict one thing: A WOMAN WILL BE FRENCH PRESIDENT SOON !

9 candidates, so you have 9 votes, that you must cast this way: 6 - 2 - 1

FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION "à la 1988"
Official results of the first round

Ségolène humiliated with one vote !! Cheesy She has just declared that this support may well encourage her to be candidate again. She has just underlined that she is above the FN, LO and the POI.
Panzergirl: 0 vote !! Cheesy

Another run-off between a centrist and a Green.
Simone Veil could be the mother of Cécile Duflot, or maybe her grand-mother.
The former prisoner in a concentration camp, the former pro-choice health minister, the former president of European Parliament vs
the young and modern leader of the Greens, former leftist and without any national mandate.

54 votes
Cécile Duflot 22 votes (40.7%)
Simone Veil 14 votes (25.9%)

Michèle Alliot-Marie 8 votes (14.8%)
Nicole Borvo 6 votes (11.1%)
Clémentine Autain 3 votes (5.6%)
Ségolène Royal 1 vote (1.9%)
Nathalie Arthaud 0 vote (0.0%)
Marine Le Pen 0 vote (0.0%)
Francine Schivardi 0 vote (0.0%)

Second round

2 candidates:

Ségolène Royal (<-> François Mitterrand, a socialist leader, but, at the time, more open to the centre: the "ouverture" in 1988, the MoDem today; also, an individualistic behaviour in his/her career)

Simone Veil (<-> Raymond Barre, an "old" centrist leader, not from a precise political party, with an image of wiseness)

2 for Duflot

I hesitated for a long time between this and the 1/1 option, but Veil's recent support to Sarkozy decided me.

LOL Exactly her style... Grin
