Hahaha.

Jack Kemp was okay on economics; his idea to gentrify the urban areas would probably have worked. That's all I'll say.

I honestly didn't know a lot about him.  I believe he was the Vice Presidential candidate in 1996, am I right?

Senator Kemp was a truly classy gentleman, an old-school moderate Republican and the preminent supporter of Empowerment Zones.  A wonderful human being and a outstanding Republican.

Nicely stated, and true.

Except for the "Senator" part.

Also, I don't really think that Kemp was an "old-school moderate".  He was a particular fusion of center and right that's hard to classify.

I always liked the man.  I'm curious as to why the tribute thread now?

Anyway, my disagreements with him were many.  I particularly abhored supply side thought and his abandonment of some long-held convictions upon joining the national ticket in 1996.

But I'm not going to squawk too much about that.  I remember a certain ant-abortion Senator from Tennessee suddenly discovering a change of heart on the issue just about the time his 1988 Democratic Primary bid got going...

Anyway, Kemp was a fine fellow.
