Let say that Lincoln Chafee finally decided to challenge George W. Bush in Republican primaries as anti-war candidate. He failed to win any state, but gained a support from many liberal Republicans. Then, he left GOP and registered as independent, due to accepting Kerry offer to join him on the ticket.

President George W. Bush of Texas/Vice President Dick Cheney of Wyoming
Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts/Senator Lincoln D. Chafee of Rhode Island

Yes, I know: two New England liberals on the ticket, but I think, if elections remains as close, Chafee would deliver enought dissatisfacted liberal Republicans to achieve narrow electoral victory.

No Changes, Bush Victory. Chafee would be an excellent Vice President, but a terrible running mate for John Kerry. Chafee adds nothing to the ticket, except a bunch of Democratic Voters in Ohio, and the South staying home. Kerry might win the PV though.

I thought about switching Wisconsin and Michigan, but I thought it was best to be Conservative.

Those "Liberal Republicans" that you said would support Kerry, mostly reside in New England, an area that Kerry does not need any extra voters in. Chafee would not help in the crucial state of Ohio, and the Democrats might lose Blue Collar Workers in the Rust Belt.

I have to agree.

Chafee brings nothing to a Democratic ticket that the Democrats don't already have.

In fact, two northeast liberals on the same ticket would drive swing voters in the midwest away from the Democratic ticket, and Bush and Cheney take Michigan and Wisconsin.
