Ian Gibson, barred from standing again by the NEC, has quit as an MP.

Greens routed Labour here. If they stand a candidate they will do well.

Could they win or is the Tory pickup guaranteed?

Expect lots of independents, celebrity candidates etc, Labour to collapse, Tories and Lib Dems to not perform very well, Greens to go on about how strong they are locally and win...or have the Tories win unspectacularly

That is as of today. Should Brown be gone by that time it might be a different picture.

Does that place has a link with the former insurance company ''Norwich Union''?

Right now I must agree with the sentiment that Labour's not going to hold this seat.  Personally I think it's most likely to go Tory, but we'll see.

It's changing its name to "Aviva" and yes, it was founded in Norwich, 1797 round about.

Craig Murray has indicated that he will stand as an anti-sleaze candidate in Norwich North.

Candidates so far declared

Conservatives: The Conservative Party had already selected Chloe Smith as their candidate for the upcoming general election; it is unknown whether she will remain as their candidate for the by-election. Should she stand and win the by-election, she will be youngest current MP and become the Baby of the House.
Labour: Ian Gibson has announced he will not be running as an Independent or Independent Labour candidate and attempt to win his seat from the Labour party after being deselected from the next election. Had he done so he would have followed the lead of Peter Law in 2005.
Liberal Democrats:
Green: The Green Party's candidate at the last general election, Adrian Holmes, has announced he will not be standing
Independents: Bill Holden, an independent candidate in 2005, also announced himself as a candidate for the next general election. Former ambassador Craig Murray has announced his intention to stand as an anti-sleaze independent candidate in Norwich North
