Our society has consistantly drifted leftwards since the 1600s.

Have you ever heard about the Second Great Awakening in the 1800's?

Which, in many respects, led to more liberal or progressive policies.  Charles Finney's revival meetings, for example, created almost as many diehard abolitionists as born again Christians.  Finney was also an advocate of coeducation and there is some evidence he was an early supporter of suffrage.

One, of course, may wish to argue that the anti-slavery, abolitionist, anti-child labor, suffrage and other social movements were actually part of a rightward drift.  (I have heard that argument before, principally from those who equate Operation Rescue, The Army of God For The Unborn and other modern anti-choice, right wing groups with the efforts to end slavery and Jim Crow.  I don't accept it, however.)

I seldom reject something solely on the basis of the originator.  But Newsmax, along with World Net Daily and Stormfront, would qualify.

I read this for fun and it was very hilarious because the author showed he has no real knowledge of my generation.

I think America was moving to the right until around 2006-2008. It sort of came back toward the center around 2006 when the Dems took Congress, and with Obama's election has steadily become left-of-center. But the country remains still inherently conservative as it has been since Reagan.

I think that after so many years of this conservatism and hatred of liberalism from the 80s till the present, there will be a resurgence in liberalism although not as extreme as the 60s, but along similar lines. The generation born in the 80s and 90s has less of a problem with liberalism, especially after watching Bush for eight years. I can also see the country becoming slightly more politically active and continuing to be more polarized. The liberalism will definitely not be a fully national trend as some areas of the country are become more conservative at the moment.

It doesn't matter.  The real battle is between finance oligarchs and real people in every nation and of every political viewpoint.
