...a Bible personality other than Jesus Christ...who would it be?  And what would you ask?

I go back and forth on this, so my answer might be different six months from now.  At present, I think I would like to spend the day with St. Peter and talk about his despair after denying the Lord and how he felt when Jesus restored him.  I'd also love to get his take on St. Paul and how they did and did not get along, but still managed to get the Kingdom built...

How about you?

(If you have no interest in the Bible, fine...no disrespect aimed at you at all.  This is just for those Atlasians who have some interest in it.  Thanks!)

Very tough decision between Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and King Josiah.  I can't actually pick, but that's my shortlist.

I like it.  What would you ask them or talk about?  My wife wants to know why Moses never stopped and asked directions...

Elijah always sounded like he'd be a real laugh.  "And then we put the Baalite priests to death!"

The Roman Centurion and Zacchaeus the Tax Collector.

I'd rather talk to men (and women) at the fringes, the 'one offs' rather than the apostles or close followers.

That would be pretty awesome.  I'd like to know if Noah really WANTED his in-laws on the boat with him or if he was just obeying the Lord.  ;-)

A bit torn between Mary (mother of Christ) and St. Thomas.  I would ask Mary about whether she really was a virgin when she bore the Annointed One, and about her place among the apostles, in order to determine the accuracy of the Bible.

With regard to St. Thomas, I would simply ask him to recount his story in full, beginning when he first became Jesus' disciple, and continuing on to his journey to India.

Adam, Noah, and Judas are good...

I'll throw in this one: John of Patmos...be interesting to see what inspired Revelations...and the true meaning behind it.

he would answer by quoting Rev 1:1-3

Rev 1:1 "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."

I would say either King David or Joseph (Jesus' earthly father).  I would ask David how it felt being anointed as Israel's second King and subsequently killing Goliath, then playing hide and seek with King Saul for years and years until Saul's death on the battlefield.  I would ask David to open up on how he coped with the consequences of his sin of the murder of Uriah and the adultery with Uriah's wife Bathsheba.  Most importantly, I would ask him how he felt at being an ancestor of Jesus Christ.  As for Joseph, I would ask him how he handled the pressure of raising the Savior of the World and raising God's only Son and raising God Himself in a way.

As far as Mary and Joseph, a lot of people give much credence to Mary, and some even go so far as to think SHE is sinless and worthy to pray to.  In fact, the name Mary (or Maria or Marie) is STILL the most popular name for a baby girl, even over 2000 years later.  I am very interested in Joseph's Story found in Matthew.  Joseph isn't mentioned very much, but played a key role in raising God's Son as His earthly father.  This is probably due to Joseph probably dying fairly early in Jesus' short earthly life.  Remember, Jesus was only on earth for 33 years.  I suspect Joseph died either late in Jesus' 20's or early in His ministry (ages 30-33).

BTW, Jim, I'm glad you had us choose someone OTHER than Christ, because we, as Christians, should talk to Christ EVERYDAY (Prayer) and let Him talk with us EVERYDAY (Bible Study and Godly friends and family).

I'd like to ask Moses, Jeremiah, and Josiah to tell me the true story behind composing the Torah, as far as they know.  As to Isaiah, I'd like to know the true meaning of certain Jesus-y passages, and what he really meant by them.

Good story, Bush...

When Dr. Robert A. Cook became head of the National Religious Broadcasters (just before Dobson forced the group to go political), it was Ronald Reagan's first appearance before the group.  Cook was given a 60 minute private audience with Reagan.

When Dr. Cook returned from the meeting, all the muckity mucks in religious broadcaster were agog over this.  They surrounded Cook and asked -- "How was it?"  "What was it like?"  "How was he?"

Cook seemed baffled by all the fuss.

When the broadcasters pinned him down about this, he finally said..."We had a nice talk.  But I don't see what the big fuss is about.  He's a nice man but he's just the President. I talked to God today."

I'll always remember that.  Of course, Bob Cook was a sweet, sweet man whose only agenda was encouraging Christians and preaching the gospel.  When he left NRB, it really went downhill.

Winston Churchill.

Oh, it is a Bible personality. Oh dear!  Let see, what Bible personalities do I know other than Christ?  Geez, it is a pretty short list Sad

I think maybe Paul. I would like to find out if he was a misogynist, or gay, or both. I am just curious. I would also like to chat with the head Jewish guy in Jerusalem at the time Christ was nailed to the cross, and ask what his issues and problems were, and maybe talk politics for a bit (it must have been tough with the trio of Romans, Jews and Christ all in one place at the same time, all pushing for influence). I would certainly like to meet Mary Magdelin (sp).  I wonder what her rates were?  Tongue

No, I don't want to talk to Moses!  He seemed like an angry old man, with authoritarian tendencies who was into a lot of rules. He also had certain Manichean tendencies. No thank you.

Thanks for listening!  Smiley

He should be.

Actually, immediately after posting, I reread the question (and notice that biblical catch), and revised and extended my remarks. The revisions and extensions were circumlocutious enough however, that while pounding the keyboard, you slipped through the cracks with your little post. Tongue
