PA should catch on too.  Problem here is we have *cough* some Republicans getting a nice payday from them and they have actually hurt the safety of some areas because of sudden stopping.

I remember reading about a Virginia Republican legislator whose primary focus was bills increasing traffic fines. And what was his other job? He worked at a law firm that mostly defended people over traffic cases.

Ok, I might as well just chew out some prominent Philadelphia Republicans on this issue.  Yes, a few of them are getting a hefty payday for doing jack in the Philadelphia Parking Authority which Former House Speaker John Perzel (R) took over a few years ago.  Some of them are making 150K per year with minimal qualifications.  The red light cameras are paying a hefty portion of their salaries.

In terms of corruption, the local GOP are no better or worse than the Dems.

Cheesy

This statement doesn't mean much, because I'm proud to be a Mississippian and always will be, but I'm really proud to be a Mississippian right now.

Haha, not all of "those types of Republicans" support the lights, Flyers.

For the record, I am strongly opposed to the cameras and totally agree that they can be a lot more dangerous because of sudden stops.

Haha, come on, dude. Yes, the corruption exists within both parties here. No non-hack would say otherwise but to say that we're on the same scale as the Dems just because of the PPA is silly (and you know that I have no reason to defend that crowd).

PHIL AND FLYERS:

THIS IS A THREAD TO CONGRATULATE MISSISSIPPI.  NOT A THREAD FOR YOUR STUPID ENDLESS DEBATE ABOUT PHILLY.

Harry's right. This is the one time anyone will ever say something nice about the worthless plot of land that he calls home. Let's let the child play, Flyers.

Congratulations Mississippi! You've finally made up for that whole nasty slavery business! Hooray!

Agreed.  I know it isn't all Republicans or anywhere close, just a handful of them.  And I've heard Republicans complain about them as much as me.

Ever had to drive near one of them in snow?  It wasn't fun and I almost rear ended a person because of the sudden stopping.  But yes, Mississippi set a great precedent for the rest of us!

God I wish California had a law like this.  I remember getting like three traffic light tickets when I lived in Beverly Hills.  Thank goodness it's more lax here.

Roll Eyes  (I know you're just dicking around, but since there's plenty of people who say things like this for real, so I'm mainly rolling my eyes at that line of thought)

The best thing I love about OC is how nice the roads are and how high the speed limits are. Laguna Niguel is alright but in Irvine you can be a speed demon and still not get pulled over. Of course people still managed to get pulled over. Goddamned college kids!!!! Smiley

Dave Albo, who, despite being unopposed that year, only managed about 87% of the vote. I think he's probably going down this year.

Oh, and as for the topic, I agree with the banning of these things. They're ridiculous.

Hopefully California will soon step up & defend its citizenry from this bureaucratic abomination.

Very conservative folks sometimes have quite the civil liberties streak in them, bless their hearts.  Remember old Larry Craig?  The Decider called him a "goddamm traitor" for opposing the Patriot Act.  I think Craig's fellow Idahoan, Mike Crapo, also opposed the PA.  But I could be wrong about that.

Interesting.  But not all that surprising, really.
