I have made it clear that outside Forum borders, in issues of social and economic matters, that Atlasia shall be a state of liberty in which power is almost entirely put into the hands of the individual. But what about the very foundation of this government, the thing on which I am speaking to you now, the Forum itself?

Well, I believe that the Forum should be a conversational hub at its finest. The Forum is home to some of the Internet's best message board patrons. I came here for straight up political talk, and I stayed because I got much more than that. I finally found posters who had opinions similar to mine. I was able to tolerate those who did not have opinions similar to mine. I had laughs. I had conversation.

The happenings of September 21st certainly left a bit of a mark on this fine forum where we all congregate. But in true Atlasian spirit, we got over it and high quality conversation continued. But still, the effects of 9/21 remain a nuisance. As president, I would push to make sure that people use the page Dave has created so that we may restore our threads to the places where they once belonged. We could urge Gustaf or Dave to create stickies to remind people of this.

Also, the current Atlasian senate has created plenty of legislation based on the forum itself. However, they have gone about it the wrong way. Troll legislation is harmful to the forums. It quiets voices that may or may not even have intent of trolling. Although none has been passed, it is a waste of time and forum space to even create legislation that infringes on freedom of speech. Also, I would ask Dave to make it so that curse words are not replaced with astricies. I post on forums that don't do that, and it makes posts flow smoother at those times when cursing is necessary.

With that in mind, consider me on October 22nd. Consider a forum at its best, but most of all, think liberty... with no strings attatched.

I would also like to add that I am against the current Karma system. In time, this would turn the Forum into one big Karma war. People will be arguing left and right about their points, people might be docked points for the wrong reasons, it makes for easier discrimination of posters, it's just one big mess.

I would push to eliminate this before it turns the forum into a warzone.

I think the scenario you're describing is certainly imaginible, but I'd suggest giving the system a chance to work.  It may do what it's designed to do without creating more toxicity than it removes.  We won't know until we try...and if it does fall flat on its face, I trust the powers that be to scap the thing.

That is a good point... I noticed that the ratings have been taken off, and although i'm glad they were removed, it still makes me curious what my points would be like a month or so from now.

Cursing is NOT necessary in any cases.  Considering this forum is a family forum, and not intended for any certain caste of people, why should cursing be accepted?

And as for cursing, I, for one, am not a total pottymouth. But i think that for humor purposes that uncensored posts work better, and like I said, I prefer full vocabulary when I am posting.

In real life, too, I believe that it is useless to protect children from curse words. The very idea that any one word be harmful seems foolish to me. And besides, they're going to learn them at one point or another, and most of them even learn it from their parents.

Despite the fact that I completely agree with you, I'm gonna' argue with you anyway. Words can be harmful because we, as a society, give them cetain undefinable connotations. I know it is poor form to just post a link to a website, but I have to go go to bed and wake up withing 2 hours.. (yuck...) so: http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/extract/164/13/1365

Also, I believe that was just a random webpage that seemed semi-relevant that I got from searching for the words "harm" and "words" on google. You don't have to read much, I'm just trying to convey my general argument with the concept discussed on that site.

Oh, and furthermore Tongue (hehee)

Dustin, i don't see that you've registered yet.

If you want to join the AFLP, then please register. We need more active members and I would like to know your opinion on our presidential ticket, but I can't really count it until you're registered.
