On behalf of residents of the Northeast, I am pleased to recognise the great service that has been performed by Governor Flynn in his various roles as an elected official.

I wish to quash any rumours: I will not be seeking the Governorship of the Northeast at the February elections.

I heard a rumor he's seeking higher office, most likely the Governorship of the Northeast at the February elections.

Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the Northeast

Media Release

06/02/2009
For Immediate Release

Lt Governor Smid of the Northeast Region has today announced his intentions for the February election campaign.

"I am concerned that my silence surrounding the elections may be discouraging other candidates from entering the race," Lt Gov Smid said. "A strongly contested election will provide the citizens of the Northeast with options and lead to better representation. I do not wish to stand in the way of other candidates nominating for elected office."

Lt Gov Smid has confirmed that it is his preference to run for the Senate.

"I have always been keen to represent my fellow citizens in the legislature. The Atlasian Senate would allow me to better serve not just the people of the Northeast, but more generally the people of Atlasia," Lt Gov Smid said.

The Lt Governor was concerned about the lack of participation in the Northeast, however.

"Freedom of speech, freedom to participate in the democratic process - these are our most fundamental democratic rights. Without participation, we are forfeiting our democratic freedoms. Since the last election, we have had our elected Governor move on to be elected to the Senate and the Lt Governor who replaced him announce his retirement. The office of CJO is still unoccupied and as of yet there have been no nominations for any position to be elected later this month. Our region is being lulled into a deep slumber and if we do not soon awaken, our democratic ideals will be comatose. For this reason, I will only nominate for the Senate if a candidate will step forward to run for Governor. Unless the Northeast has a candidate for Governor, I will forego my calling to run for Senate and shall instead nominate for the role of Governor."

Despite his reluctance to contest the role of Governor, Lt Gov Smid reassures the Northeast citizenry that if elected, he will diligently discharge the duties of the office and faithfully serve all members of the Region.

The Lieutenant Governor also commented on the Presidential race.

"The citizens of the Northeast will be best represented by a President who understands us," he said. "There is no better candidate for the office of President than one of our own, AndrewCT, who is more than just a great Northeasterner, he is a great Atlasian."

Speech made from the front porch of Smid's house in Vermont:

Thank you all for stopping by after this busy weekend at the polls. I congratulate President Bgwah on his re-election.

It would seem that I have been elected to the Senate with a vote of just over 55%.

While I am thankful of the support I received from a majority of citizens of the Northeast, it is sobering to think that another 45% of our neighbours were disappointed by this result. I did not make many promises during my campaign - we've all heard plenty of "committments" that are too soon abandoned in the gutter after the election - but I will promise you this today: no matter who you voted for, I will work hard for you and I will make you proud to have me as your Senator from the Northeast.

I will promise you this: that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office to which I have been elected.

I will promise you this today: that while you may not agree with every vote I cast in the Senate, or every stance I take - I will cast my votes and take my stances on what I honestly hold to be true and I will stand before you with a clear conscience and be prepared to give you an account of my actions.

This I promise you: that I will stand before you and be able to look you in the eye because I will not break faith with you.

The role of Senator is one of a servant-leader, and I shall wear the mantle of leadership by serving the constituents of the Northeast Region. I seek to be open and honest with you and I am pleased to assist any Northeast citizen by drafting Bills for the Senate, so long as the Bill is one which I will be able to support. If there is a matter which you believe needs to be considered, please contact my office.

I am proud to speak to you as a Senator-elect, under than banner of the RPP but with the strong support of members of the Democratic Alliance. The DA is a new party in Atlasia, but its beliefs have held sway among many who have made Atlasia great, especially those in the DA's predecessor, the National Liberal Coalition. I am very thankful of the DA members who voted for me - indeed, the majority of my votes were cast by members of the DA and I will not soon forget the trust they have placed in me. I will say to you again: I will not break faith with you.

Although only one Senate seat is elected by the Regions, the Northeast is fortunate to have two Senators elected from the Region: I will be joining the same hallowed chamber as Senator Lief of the SDP, also of Vermont. I may disagree with the SDP on many issues, indeed, probably on most issues, however I gladly acknowledge the great role they have performed and are performing in Atlasia today. I have said it previously and I hold this thought to be true - that no one side holds a monopoly on good ideas and that democracy is best served when diverse opinions are shared and debated.

I stand before you knowing that there is work to be done. Atlasia today is a place with declining activity, where those who are leaving our nation are greater in number than those who are joining the Atlasian family. A Constitutional Convention has been called and it is our duty to put forth ideas and provide sound judgement when determining the manner by which we may best stimulate involvement in Atlasia.

I will express an interest in a delegateship. I think that it is important that we have a mix of players and opinions represented from the Northeast and am personally endorsing Eraserhead and Lief of the SDP and AndrewCT and one other of the DA (although whoever that might be, I haven't decided). I think that these other three are all people with good ideas who can contribute to the discussion and help us come together to create a workable system that promotes activity.

If you have not already voted in the elections for Governor and Lt Governor, I would urge you to vote for AndrewCT, who I supported for President and who I currently support for Governor. Andrew has demonstrated his dedication to the Northeast and the Region would be well-served by his election.

Again, thank you for your support this weekend past. I will honour your trust and I will not fail you.

Oh, I wasn't disappointed in the result. I think you'll be a very good Senator, I just wanted to elect someone a little bit closer me to ideologically. I wish you luck, and thank you for the endorsement. Smiley

Senators, thank you both for your support. Senator Lief, I should have chosen my words more carefully: "are to be represented by a Senator for whom they did not vote" may have been a more accurate phrasing.
