Social libertarians, disaffected with the increase in power of the Religious Right over the Republican Party, finally bolt en masse to the Libertarian Party, delivering to it their votes in lockstep and giving it the Party's best showing since Harry Browne - which, of course, isn't that great, but is enough to deliver a handful of states to President Obama.

Meanwhile, a few leaders in the Christian political world who take seriously the socialistic tendencies of their religion, decide to tentatively fall in line behind the President in his re-election bid, setting aside for the moment divisive social issues in favor of the President's economic policy.

Bobby Jindal has been nominated for the Vice-Presidency on the Republican ticket, causing many Southern racialists who have been voting Republican since the Presidency of Richard Nixon to sit the election out.

After a prolonged recessionary period, the economy is evidently on its way to recovery.

What does the map look like?

omg ur wet dream map

dude its not going to happen I picture obama winning a close re-election ala bush 2004

if obama did win in a huge landslide
this is probably the best he could do there would probably have to be a conservative  third party candidate for this to happen.

Obama 52%
jindal 38%
lib 8%

Political coalitions have definite lifespans. The New Deal coalition began breaking apart about thirty-two years after it first coalesced during Roosevelt's first election - not coincidentally, Reagan's first victory will have happened thirty-two years before 2012. It'll be interesting to count down the clock on that particular group.

Obama/Biden 477
Someone/Jindal 61

The three-way Republican split gives Obama the opportunity to score the biggest electoral landslide since 1984.
And if the economy indeed recovers by then, he won't even need this split to achieve a similar result.

3-way Republican split? Who runs? And would this scenario include any 3rd party candidates?
