My teachers not only use the word fuck in class, but once we had a discussion in English contrasting the uses of the words negro & n***** when we were reading speeches by MLK Jr.

I just got suspended because I said fuck after I got pushed into a table. One more reason why I hate prudes. Yeah charter schools are so much better than public schools. Roll Eyes

Wow.

We had an in-class discussion of fuck in Philosophy class the other day.

Your school is retarded, EMD.

Hashemite, that is better than me. This week, my new Philosophy teacher, an ex-Soviet commando, talked abouts like they were facts of:

CIA destructed WTC to invade Afghanistan to protect the drug traffic who is good for the economy and to construct a pipeline and to invade Iraq for oil.

NASA invented the story of walking on the moon to look better than USSR. Now, the NASA stopped to go on the moon because there is secret US military bases on the moon.

Opticians hide the techniques to recover the sight to sell more contact lenses and glasses.

He says than Obama will be killed by the Secret Service because he wants change.

Terrorism in an invention of US government to invade other countries.

I'm not surprised. At my private school I could get a detention for not tucking in my shirt, wearing a belt, a tie on the right day, or even not wearing the school-endorsed brand of uniform. I got into several arguments with a specific teacher because I clearly was wearing the wrong brand of pants because there were extra seems. God forbid! Swearing was an extra special offense and would probably warrant a "Saturday school." But a fight would likely get you suspended.

That's pretty ridiculous.  Students and occasionally would use profanity at my high school, and I can't remember anyone ever being disciplined for it.

This is what I think but I can't exactly move out of my house at 14.
You shouldn't put down your state like that.

It wasn't until Grade 9 that I even said that word, due to a delusional fear of authority I had. To this day, I wont say that word around my parents, but do say a lot of other vulgarities around them. However, I am very different now, and I say the f word a lot. Smiley

Isn't school supposed to prepare you for the workplace? Well suspending someone for swearing doesn't exactly prepare you for work considering how much swearing actually goes on at work.

A student in my Politics class uses fuck quite often while answering questions. The teacher either doesn't care, since he's a cool guy, or he just says "watch your language".

Apparently it is worse to say fuck than start fights. I am not joking when I say that at my school you would get detention for having a fight but suspended for swearing. Yeah conservatism makes real sense.

Exactly. This line of thinking is certainly consistent with how generally social taboos are stronger for sexual impropriety than for violence. Yes, cursing can be contrued as verbal harassment, and verbal harassment is undesirable. But other verbal harassment can be damaging even if does not involve cursing, and our society (esp. those dealing with children) over punishes cursing in proportion to other anti-social behaviors.

It is also disturbing how our society considers a child cursing a much higher offense than an adult cursing, even if it is just a slip of the tongue.
