Not really, though there's no doubt that the Koran's a much less well-written document than the Bible.

(Prepares to be flamed by the "It's meant to be read in Arabic" crowd)

Yes, as the other missionary faiths are.

not any more than other religions, no.

Muslims, though, tend to be more conflictual than other people these days.

Naturally, these people still make up only a small minority of Muslims.

They seem to get pissed off at things we find petty WAY to often.  I know it's not all of them throwing rocks at embassies because of a cartoon or what some random, racists politico said, but it inevitably happens and it's giving the entire religion a big black eye.

It, in and of itself might not be any more conflictual than any other religion, but it's current followers certainly seem to be.

which I don't believe results from anything having to do with the teachings of Islam itself as it comes from (1) the political history of the last 60 years or so and (2) the fact that the Islamic world is currently facing an age bulge of young men in their teens and 20s, many of whom are frustrated and unemployed

Please not that I never made any claim that it was caused by Islam.

I did not in any way intend to insinuate that you had: I was just pointing out why the situation you describe came about.

I don't think Islam or any other religion is inherently anything; religions are what their practitioners make of them.  For instance, in Islam, jihad is often referred to as the "sixth pillar" of Islam (after the confession of faith, daily prayer, almsgiving, fasting during Ramadan and the pilgirmage to Makka).  Some Muslims read jihad to mean primarily armed defense of the fath when it is under attack, and some read jihad to mean primarily the internal struggle against the tendancy to drift away from God.  As a result, there are in Islam some radical jihdists and some "Gandhian" Muslims who take vows of non-violence and everything in between.  Religions are what their practitioners make of them.

Yes, but almost all faiths are. I think early Islam was progressive and fine, just as time progressed, It got very *well* corrupted, and now we have a good portion of them hating the Infidel.

Yes but it's no worse than any other revealed religion.
