This is something that's been bugging me for a while. After every election people on both sides of the spectrum inevitably bring up old predictions that posters opposed to them made which are laughable and ridiculous in hindsight.

The common response to bringing these up is claiming that that "isn't fair" and something to the extent of "well that's what it looked like at the time" or "well that's what would've happened had event X not occurred, and there was really no way to tell that that was going to happen."

Well... if you don't want to get mocked for your predictions later on... don't make a prediction.

The point of a prediction is to predict what will happen - not what may happen if things continue at this rate or if things X and Y do/do not happen. Anyone could forecast what will happen if the current conditions remain.

So, come 2010, when old predictions of yours are inevitably brought up, don't whine and complain that it's unfair. If you're not sure it's going to happen and don't want to be wrong, then don't say it.

Of course. I am willing to own up to bad predictions I make.

The most obvious one I can think of is when I said McCain would get >70% in WV. It was retarded then & it's more retarded now. But I have no problem with people bringing it up.

Uh...a lot of us have a problem with how the incorrect predictions are harped on even after some of us own up to their inaccuracy. It's the constant immature bragging that gets annoying, not the fact that we got something wrong.

So sad that we can't make predictions without worrying about people acting like children if we get it wrong.  Roll Eyes

It's hilarious to see people melting down after they're proven wrong though.

My Gironde prediction was quite awful, but probably based on the fact that I'm a right-wing hack.

Now, if the UMP wins in Douarnenez, when I'm predicting a Communist win, I'll look weird.

I never mind if my predictions are wrong. I've probably gotten more predicitions wrong that I have right.
