Main national page?  I copied the state map directly from there, but I saw no county map.

End of the Dixiecrats (at last). Even in 2004, there were some holdouts for Kerry, especially in the Tennesse Valley, Coal Country, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Oh, sorry, your county map was being blocked by the filter at the library.  Nicely done

I don't have a filter, but I can't see it either. Is it a member only map?

Shouldn't be.  I've never encountered problems with Photobucket links, but here's an Imageshack link:

I know, the degree to which this state swung is absolutely amazing but its a complete vindication of the "50 state strategy" IMO.  Of course, Obama didn't actually campaign in all 50 states but he did break free from the old Democratic formulas that have kept them out of the White House for 28 of the past 40 years.

I meant that like you I couldn't see a county map on the main national map.

Home state effect for Kerry, mostly.

There is also a certain degree of quiet racism that exists there.

probably, but this was the one area of the country that Kerry was actually a good candidate for.

But most importantly, it was Kerry's home state. See the swings in South Texas, too.

Regardless, that's not why Massachusetts swung less strongly to Obama than other northern states.

It's not using the same template, but here is the national county trend map:
