The Conservative Political Action Conference will be meeting this week, from Feb. 18-20.  Potential 2012 presidential candidates Gingrich, Pawlenty, Romney, Paul, Pence, and Santorum will all be speaking at the conference.  They'll also be holding their annual presidential straw poll, and it looks like the ballot will look like this:

Haley Barbour

Mitch Daniels

Newt Gingrich

Mike Huckabee

Sarah Palin

Ron Paul

Tim Pawlenty

Mike Pence

Mitt Romney

Rick Santorum

John Thune

I think Thune could win the Iowa caucus...part of the state receives TV stations from SD and is already familiar with Thune

I think the Thune 2012 Campaign begins this March 30 2010

Seriously, Ron Paul should not be on this list.  There is little chance that he will run.  They really should have put Gary Johnson's name on the ballot.  He will probably be taking the reigns of the libertarian movement within the Republican Party, unless someone else comes along.

I really don't know who's gonna win the ballot.  Sarah Palin will probably rank 3rd in the voting with 11%.  Ron Paul will be up there because most of the people going to the convention will be college age.  Ultimately, I beleive Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee will come in first with 19-23%.  Its hard to tell.  When I went last year it was pretty obvious that Romney was going to win.  All the older people liked him.

IMO, Thune stands a modest chance of winning the party's nomination.  And, if he doesn't, a better than modest chance of being the nominee's running mate.

Palin will not be  in attendance due to CPAC's affiliation with the John Birch Society.

So now, in addition to the straw poll itself, we've got National Journal straw polling the straw poll.  That is, they surveyed GOP party leaders for predictions on who's going to win the straw poll, and who has the most to prove at CPAC this week:

http://hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com/archives/2010/02/cpac_vets_see_t.php

Who Will Win CPAC Straw Poll? (48 total votes)
Palin                   22
Romney                  20
Gingrich                 2
Pawlenty                 2
Romney or Palin          1
Santorum                 1

Who Has The Most To Prove At CPAC? (45 total votes)
Pawlenty                13
Romney                   9
Palin                    8
Huckabee                 5
Gingrich                 3
Santorum                 2
Anyone not named Palin   1
Tea Party candidates     1
Marco Rubio              1
Glenn Beck               1

Those "insiders" are so transaparent.  They know Palin is not going to win it as she's not in attendance and it's not her demographic that attends CPAC.

They are trying to raise expectations so that she gets hurt from it.

I'm watching CPAC on C-SPAN online right now:

http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/02/20/HP/R/29840/Beck+wraps+up+CPAC+conference.aspx

and they're about to announce the straw poll results.

This goes to show Romney is the most likley to get the nomination.
Ron Paul's supporters are very dedicated, but he is unelecatable to most republicans.

It's not going to be Paul seeking the nomination...
