Gonzales would be a horrible choice, the anti-gun pro-abortion pro-torture hack.  He's wrong on just about every issue.  Just because you're pro-torture doesn't mean you're moderate.

When the hurricane coverage dies down in about two weeks.

Well, if it's a controversial pick, he might prefer to have the media's attention divided.

I think Bush will exploit the Hurricane disaster, and nominate Edith Clement simply because she hails from New Orleans. However I'm personally hoping for Gonzalez to be picked.

Liberals just love to exploit national disasters to attack the president. Its sooo old now. Roll Eyes

Clement was my call to be Chief Justice all along.

She's 57. I'd shoot for a little younger.

What exactly do you mean by pro-torture?

You know, so far everyone in this thread seems to have missed the obvious possibility that Bush might switch the Roberts nomination to be for chief justice.

I told you so!

Though I placed that prediction in the official thread Grin

I don't know if this is allowed, but what about sitting senators? Would any be considered for it?

Cornyn was considered (allegedly) by Bush two months ago and the Democrats named four Senators as candidates they could support. I doubt any will be considered seriously though.

Orrin Hatch would be a possible name I take it?

RIP for a good person. Unfortunately, the partisan sh*tstorm this is going to kick up (if not with the switch to having Roberts fill in, then certainly with the renewed O'Connor replacement) is really not needed right now...

What a weird position.
