Here's a cool map where you can see advertising dollars/votes received for both candidates.

The 2008 election was not only the longest in history; it was also the most expensive -- by far. Altogether, the candidates raised over $1 billion, of which President-elect Barack Obama was responsible for nearly $640 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

While Obama had far more funds to spread around nationally, new data from TNS Media Intelligence/Center for Media Analysis Group demonstrates that both candidates spent lavishly to win over voters in battleground states. Comparing each campaign's expenditures on TV advertising versus number of votes won in each state, Obama won the award for most dollars spent per vote -- doling out $14.85 in Nevada -- with McCain close behind at $13.95 in the same state. Obama also topped the $10-per-vote mark in Virginia and New Hampshire, while John McCain's next-highest outlays came in New Mexico, at $9.25 per voter, and Pennsylvania, at $8.51.

Unfortunately for the Arizona senator, he lost each of the three states where he spent the most proportionally, while Obama's big bets paid off. In fact, Obama pulled off wins in each of his six highest-paid states, finally falling short in seventh place Missouri, where he shelled out $7.23 per vote only to lose to McCain by less than 1 percent. The Republican candidate, by comparison, spent $5.19 in the Show Me State, making it the state McCain spent the most to win.
