Looks like you can add this one to the Obama column. It is still pretty damn close but the trend is towards Obama. Regardless this is another bit of evidence of Obama's strength in cities as well as with latinos.

The whole central valley swung extremely hard towards Obama. I wonder if latinos alone explain this......I guess evangelical turnout might have been lower.

Housing crisis. Stockton had and IIRC still has the highest foreclosure rate in the country; a lot of other Central Valley cities are also way up there.

Ditto. I cant' wait to see what its like when I get back home for Winter Break.

Do you know when the Cali SOS will release numbers for the individual cities? I would like to make a 2004 and 2008 map.

But it seems as if turnout is way down.

But anyway haha, the FreeRepublic people must be in mourning.

Fresno cast like 50,000 more votes in 2004.

Orange county just got updated on cnn and turnout seems to be near 2004 levels. Considering there may be more ballots left, this could even exceed 2004. Maybe % registered voting will go down....There was lower turnout in the central valley but turnout overall hasn't been bad. Turnout is actually pretty good in the bay area and was pretty good in San bernardino as well.

It seems as if a lot of Republicans in Central Valley sat it out.

The Central Valley is actually a swing region.  It has just favored Republicans for a while.

It is actually a conservative place though (gave birth to FreeRepublic afterall), wouldn't be surprised if like 50% of Obama supporters voted Yes on 8 in Fresno.

Fresno County reminds me of Indiana + Some Hispanics..

The lead has flipped at least 3 times. McCain now leads. There are still 43,500 votes to be counted.

Its not all rural farmland there's a good bit of the Sierra Nevada on the Eastern stretch, which is about half the drive which has a good amount of roads closed off for the winter months.

I can post pics if you like.

More like Tulare County.

Fresno is more on grapes, raisins, oranges, walnuts, etc.

Status update: Theres about 1,512 votes to be counted. Looks like McCain will eke it out, me thinks.

The dung kicks in a bit north of that.
