Talk about having a bunker mentality.  This dude has rarely been seen in over a year. And whenever he does show his face, he becomes more and more incoherent.

He can't go out like this.  He needs to at least put forth some effort in his last few months.

Show some pride dude and go out swinging.

The last thing we need is for this guy to go out "swinging" at anything.

He's leaving with a quiet whimper. He probably regrets ever winning in the first place, let alone getting re-elected. He's still not half the man his father was, and that realization is probably what upsets him the most right now.

It's best if he stays away. Every time he speaks the Dow has to fall 200 points.

Yeah, his definition of "swinging" would be an invasion of Iran.

Actually, it goes up when he speaks. It's fallen the most ever post-election since Obama was elected, for what it's worth.

He's been quite visible, jmfcst.  He just didn't inject himself into the presidential election.  If you lived in the DC area, you don't go a day without seeing him in the news.

he seemed almost giddy to me when giving the short spiel congratulating Obama...  I wouldn't be shocked if McCain's loss made him just a bit happy

He's probably just relieved to be 75 days from returning home after a blistering eight years in office.  He's happy to just hand the keys of the White House over to anybody.  Heck, he probably wouldn't have cared if it was Michael Moore or Cynthia McKinney (exaggeration), he just wants to GO HOME!!!

Can you blame him? Look what he's been through (outside Iraq). Firstly was the sub sinking the Japanese boat, then 9/11, then the trillions of hurricane, he gets personally smeared by the media for natural disasters of which he has no control. Does Bush deserve criticism? Sure, every president does. Does he have some political failings? Yes, and I've called him on a few. Has he received excessive attacks from the kooks on the left and the kooks in the media? Yes. So really, I can't blame him for wanting to leave. If I'd gotten treated the way he's been treated I'd be ready to step up to the podium and give half the country a big fat middle finger.

If he wants to retire this weekend, I'm sure some DailyKos users will help him pack and move his stuff out of the White House.

He have a speech today to the media and teared up at the end of it. We've had our disagreements, but Bush hasn't been an awful President. I agree with States when he says he's gotten blamed for so many things that he had no control over. I mean, we had leftists claiming Bush and Cheney created Katrina with scientists to kill black people.

That's possible.

I think Bush is humbled by the country's distaste for him after he did his best.  He feels a lot like an acceptable quarterback playing against a great team.  You get blamed for every pass dropped or missed play, but too bad. That's how it works, you get unfair blame for bad things and unfair praise for the good things.

Wow, I'm agreeing with StatesRights on something.

People have a tendency to overestimate the influence a President actually has on anything. Katrina was a multi-level, bi-partisan failure, a lot of foreign policy events were not directly caused by him and the economic meltdown was also a bi-partisan failure (the Democrats in Congress didn't do anything despite controlling both chambers for over a year- a conspiracy theorist might say on purpose.

People chose to take risky loans, banks chose to make them.

As for a full analysis of Bush, we'll need to wait ten years or so.

Obviously there's a lot of blame for people other than George W. Bush for the mess of the last 8 years, but he's still the worst President.

You laugh but my work place is 60+% black and I can absolutely confirm that conspiracy theory is at least one of many floated around.
