It was a fine concession speech. One of the most gracious I've ever seen.

Thank you Senator.

It really was a good one.

The crowd, on the other hand, was not in the same spirit.

McCain gave a solid speech. I watched it from the offices of the SEIU and they gave him an applause at the end. I was too pessimistic; yesterday was a good day for the United States of America.

I thought it was very gracious... I have to commend McCain for that.

The crowd booing was no good... but I can understand it.

I haven't watched that many concession speeches, but I was a little surprised, since I felt that he went a lot further than he really needed to in calling for unity and support for the president.

I admit being really taken aback when I watched this.

It was gracious and magnamimous.

I said before I felt sorry that McCain was forced to be someone he wasnt in order to win. We saw the real McCain. While I'm SOOO happy that Obama won, I hope Obama will use him to help unite the country.

I agree. I was extremely impressed with McCain's concession.

I sincerely believe that the real McCain is back, which he showed last night.

Barack Obama has said many times (almost too many times) that John McCain is a genuine American hero.

He meant it.

You saw it last night.

Very good speech.
It's a pity that this wasn't the John McCain we saw during the campaign.

It was a very good and decent speech. The chuckleheads in the crowd, however, needed to be hosed down.

Even I was a little taken aback by BRTD's tone here... but then again, I think McCain's speech deserved that kind of reaction.

Agreed. It was one of the best concession speeches I have ever heard. As Jas said earlier, its truly a shame that wasn't the McCain we heard from during the presidential campaign. The 2008 campaign would have been better on many more levels had he. Though I am sure some Republicans would beg to differ.

Franzl, we will know when the real John McCain is back when he begins to criticise the religious right once more *fingers crossed*. Now that John McCain was an awesome McCain...

It's perfectly appropriate to boo when you lose.

McCain's words are irrelevant going forward if the crowd's reaction is any indication of GOP sentiment right now.

Absolutely.  This is one of the first elections in a long time where I feel both choices were truly great men.  But though I supported Obama, on the greatness scale, nothing can compare to the service rendered this country by John McCain.

For what it's worth, he seemed truly relieved to be done with the race.  I hope he takes a LONG vacation with Cindy and really enjoys himself.

I once respected John McCain back in 2000  and thought Bush and Rove used nasty tactics to win that primary.

But this year John McCain ran one of the most dishonorable campaigns in history and I have lost all respect for him.

The only thing that would be out of place is if both sides didn't commend the other campaign regardless of who won.  They both did so and the reactions were appropriate.
