I only have info going back as far as 1952, but since then this is the closest the Democrat has come to winning Orange County, CA.

Before now the closest result had been in 1964, when Goldwater carried it by 11.9%.

Bush won it by just over twenty points four years ago.

Your thoughts?

Last time a Dem won it was in 1936, I think. It was an FDR election thats for sure.

Shock at first.

1.) But I think the early call of Ohio really depressed Republicans in CA.
2.) Youth swung Dem.

Also turnout was down by about 200,000.

Because of Ohio's early call?

Doubt it.  This area of the country loves absentee ballots.

Again, there are lots more votes yet to be counted in California.

With 100% in according to CNN, only about 830,000 votes were cast in Orange County, and in 2004 almost 1.1 million were cast.

Basically the democratic base showed up while the republicans either didn't show up or reluctantly voted for Obama. I do think there were a lot like Torie who were undecided and the more apathetic of them chose to stay home. Or there was massive early/absentee voting and we have lots of votes still outstanding. I am not sure.

GOP turnout in CA went way down because Ohio was called early for Obama.

Also, I'm not sure about other areas, but in my area, there were a lot of Obamacons. Also, John Campbell and Dana Rohrabacher only got narrowly reelected.

I'm sure San Diego County is loaded with Obamacons.

True.

And as Torie pointed out on the other OC thread, OC Elections estimates there are 239,516 ballots left to count.  Mystery solved.

You live in Irvine right? Near UCI? There is enormous support for obama around here but I would see more Mccain signs the more I got away from campus.
