PRESIDENT:
Every major newspaper covering New Jersey—including the New York Times, Philly Inquirer, Newark Star Ledger, Asbury Park Press, Courier-Post, Home News Tribune, Courier-News, Trenton Times, and Bergen Record—have endorsed Barack Obama for President.
None have endorsed John McCain.

US SENATE:
Lautenberg has gotten the nod from the New York Times and Star-Ledger, both of which normally endorse the Democratic candidate; and the Home News Tribune.
Zimmer was endorsed by the Republican leaning Asbury Park Press, in addition to the Courier Post and normally Democratic Philadelphia Inquirer.

CONGRESS, NJ-03
State Senator John Adler has scored most the major endorsements here, including the Philly Inquirer, New York Times, Burlington County Times, Press of Atlantic City, and the Courier-Post.
Medford Mayor Chris Myers has been endorsed by the Asbury Park Press.

CONGRESS, NJ-05
Dennis Shulman, the blind rabbi challenging sitting Rep. Scott Garrett, won the endorsement of the New York Times.
Garrett, meanwhile, won the nod from the Express-Times.

CONGRESS, NJ-07
State Senator Leonard Lance is sweeping the endorsements here.  The Express Times, Home News Tribune, and Courier-News have all endorsed Lance, in addition to the usually Democratic Star Ledger and New York Times.
Stender has yet to score a major endorsement.

PolitickerNJ has this today:

I expect Lance to win in an otherwise bad night for the GOP.  I'd have expected Ferguson to lose.

I've long expected Adler and Lance to win here, so I can't say that I'm surprised.

Item 1: It's never a good sign when you start looking for someone to blame for why you lost in October.

Item 2: It's never a good sign when your campaign releases an internal poll showing you behind.

According to PolitickerNJ, sources in the Linda Stender campaign are leaking a poll showing Stender to be four points behind Lance in her bid to succeed Rep. Mike Ferguson (R-NJ). This news comes on the heels of an internal leaked by the Lance campaign which has Stender trailing by a 40–31 margin.

NOVEMBER 1, 2008

CONGRESS, NJ-03
A Zogby International poll (quiet down, it's the best you're going to get) shows that this race is still a toss-up: Both Adler (D) and Myers (R) are tied at 39%.  Sixteen percent remain undecided.

This is a good old fashioned street fight—neither candidate seems to be able to rely on coattails.  Obama leads McCain in the district by 1 (45–44); Zimmer leads Lautenberg in the district by 1 (also 45–44).

CONGRESS, NJ-07
Bad news for Stender fans: If she loses her race for Congress, she's likely to be forced out of the legislature, or so says PolitickerNJ.

Meanwhile, Stender is using an interesting strategy to cut into Lance's numbers—she's sending a mailer out to hard R voters criticizing the independent candidate Hsing for being too conservative.

No way Obama is up by just 1 in NJ-03.  If he is winning the state by double digits, he is probably winning that district by a good 4, 5 points.

It is quite possible that Obama's heightened lead in the state is a result of running up even more impressive numbers in traditional Democratic areas like Newark, Elizabeth, and Camden.  Getting a firm hold on where the numbers are going to come from this year is admittedly not the easiest thing in the world, but you'd have an easier time convincing me that Obama will significantly outpace Kerry in NJ-07 rather than NJ-03. (We'll find out soon, though.)
