What is wrong with the center of gravity of European politics by the way? Where has it gone wrong?

British Conservative leaders like Churchill and Thatcher believed universal healthcare coverage to be compatable, if even an extension of conservative philosophy. Why is that idea so alien to US conservatives - why do your citizens 'not deserve' this coverage?
That really has to do with the fact that British and American conservatism are two radically different beasts with almost nothing in common (though they have coalesced recently).
