Erickson is a joke candidate.  The Oregonian's endorsement of Schrader was mostly an anti-endorsement of the coke-snorting, abortion-paying, cock-fighting watching, moral hypocrite that is Erickson. The O actually called him a "political sociopath" for his penchant of forging endorsement letters from other pols.

This is a seat that im sure Democrats are thanking god the incumbent retired in such a Democratic year.  In any other year, this seat would have been very tough to hold as an open seat.

Pearce over Wilson.
Erickson over Mannix.

What other races did Republicans purposely give up in the primary?

They gave up NY-13 and VA-Sen before the primary.  Tongue  I would say AK-AL, but I don't trust Alaska.

But if you ask Keystone Phil...

I'm going to have to disagree about the OR-05 GOP primary. Erickson outspent and out-campaigned Mannix.  Because of the high early voting rate, many Republicans voted for Erickson  before his baggage was disclosed. FYI, Mannix, who is a three-time loser for statewide office, is Oregon's version of Tom McClintock - the only difference is that McClintock still has a public office, whereas Mannix has been out of office since 2001.

Mannix is also the only one to come anywhere close.  He carried OR-5, correct?

In 2000 (during his AG bid), and in 2002 (during his guv run) and in 2006 (during the GOP guv primary), he carried OR-05.  I don't know if he carried it when he lost the AG primary in '96.

Ah, but of course.

I give Young the slight edge at the moment, but that was indeed the most boneheaded Republican primary result this year.

Wilson wouldn't have bothered to wait with campaigning until September.

Either way, I didn't think we were winning this one.

I'm very disappointed in Pete for not sticking around for another term (even though I guess he would have had a bit of a problem with the U.S. Attorney stuff).

And the degenerative brain disease he was selfishly diagnosed with.

I'm not as up to speed concerning the health of every U.S. Senator. Excuse me.

He was running for re-election until he was diagnosed.  A sad end to a distinguished career.
